This is a meme we see from the right all the time.
The truth of the matter is that the right hates "liberals", and anything "Democratic", so much, that they are willing to sacrifice their souls in their battle. If anyone thinks the right does not hate the "liberals", just listen to a little of the 8-10 hours of hatred that is on talk radio every single day.
"Yeah, but look at the economy!", they say. "Look at our taxcuts!"
But look at what they are willing to accept. There is no need to try and explain honesty and character and humanity and civilization to someone who has closed their mind to such.

(204 posts)look at how they despise a good and honorable man like Obama, making up lies about him and doing everything they can to destroy him, while they revere, in cultlike fashion, a disgusting scoundrel like Trump.

(8,200 posts)Their constituency consists of the ultra-wealthy and the desperate working class that advancements have left behind and have no skills to satisfy the present economy and most importantly no means or desire to change their qualifications. They are easy prey for scoundrels like Trump who give them false hope that he can magically reverse the situation and effectively turn back the clock when factories employed millions performing rote jobs. Throw in the evangelical zealots who are determined to make everyone embrace their radical religious beliefs. To the mix add in the "end-timers who are easy prey and just useful idiots to be exploited by Republican frauds who don't share their delusions. The Republican Party chose to employ fraud and deceit to win elections over the last forty to fifty years ago rather than honesty to confront the challenges that face the nation. As a consequence rather than advancing solutions they have mired the political process in swamp of unresolved problems. In contrast, the Democrats have basically held true to making the government an instrument to address the complex problems of a rapidly changing society. This is in sharp contrast to the Republicans whose refusal to adopt progressive solutions has been their consistent position. These include issues such as health care, infrastructure, retirement plans, the entire new world of automation, ....

Thanks for the good summary. They've known exactly the right emotional buttons to push for a long, long time.

(68,735 posts)be hysteria...and we have had layoff in Ohio directly because of the president...the steel tariffs have caused GM Lordstown to lose another shift...car costs more to manufacture...also Parma GM as well...steel jobs pay is shitty so there has been little benefit for us. My 401 K is down $10,000. The economy is weakening as it did before 08...and our Ohio farmers are hurting from the tariffs...good jobs sacrificed for an industry that no longer has the infrastructure to make a comeback.

There always seems to be an undercurrent of hatred of people who work those union jobs in the Chevy plant around here. I think they're just jealous that it's a good job with good benefits. Or, used to be. You'd think they'd be proud of the big auto plant we have here and all the jobs it provides. We have way too many deplorables living in this area.
So much winning!
kentuck
(111,110 posts)Maybe more than a bit?
Ohiogal
(32,130 posts)You see comments in the papers all the time bashing the union employees out there..... Honestly, I think they're just jealous that someone else got a good job with good pay and benefits. If that plant ever closed up, this area would be in serious trouble. We may as well dry up and blow away in the wind. They've been the major employer here since I was in high school. I just don't get the "deplorable mindset".

And the second shift ...where will they go? The third shift was laid off for most of a year...and just recently went to Indiana. Autos feel an economic downturn first.

(3,169 posts)I'll be glad to comment on it. The question I always have is "What exactly has he done that is good for the vast majority of people in this country?" So far, I don't see anything. The economy was already doing quite well under Obama and the US economy is a big thing that takes a long time to change - the inertia from the Obama years was enough to keep it humming for over a year. Really, a president has no effect on the economy for about a year anyway, so that means Trump's influence is only 3 months old!
I find it funny that conservatives accuse us of "hatred" when in fact they are the ones who hate everything even remotely Democratic, and were committed to opposing EVERYTHING that Obama proposed before they even saw the proposals. Fuck every one of them (and I say that with the sweetest Southern "Bless your heart" voice)!

You know when you reach a certain age and you start going back to the beginning, paying more attention to the Reunions? Well, already learning the price of despair in some of my old friend's lives. Some aren't going to make it to the next Reunion.

(13,133 posts)Especially if you live California and industrious enough to own your home. I already figured mine out for next season, the formula they used put about fifty-two dollars a week in take-home pay. Then at the end of the year, I have to give it back because of loss of deductions for the same so-called tax cut.
The people who get to keep the extra money where the people who make over five hundred thousand a year. Mostly us common folks are just getting cuts to government services

And FTR the taxcuts suck and Trump inherited a good economy from President Obama, an economy that is actually starting to not do so well.

(5,955 posts)Here are the GOOD things Trump is doing:
-Exploding the GOP myth that a private sector businessman can run government better than any bureaucrat can.
-Exploding the myth of the superiority of the middle aged white male 'conservative'
-Exploding the myth that the GOP hated Clinton because of his adulterous behavior.
-Exploding the myth that the GOP is all about 'family values'
-Exploding the myth that people from the private sector are inherently more competent than people from the public sector.
-Exposing how much 'conservatives' loot and exploit public resources and public property whenever they're in power. Prior to Trump, they were somewhat clever about hiding it. Now it's right out in the open.
-Exploding the myth (for the tenth time, at least) that if you lower taxes, the economy will out grow the revenue loss, and revenues will go up.
-Exploding the myth that cutting taxes does not EXPLODE the DEFICIT.
-Exploding the myth that you can easily balance the budget by finding 'waste, fraud, and abuse' in Medicare and Social Security.
-Exploding the myth that if Republicans were elected they would cut spending and balance the budget.
-Exploding the myth that the private sector has 'all the best people' in it
-Exploding the myth that running government is EASY compared to running a business
-Exploding the myth that if Republicans were elected they're repeal and replace Obamacare with a healthcare plan that will magically make everybody's premiums go down, and everybody's level of care go UP.
Any others that you can think of?

(2,850 posts)Since "family values" and "christian values" clearly have nothing to do with their motivations. I have a few suggestions that might be more accurate:
- "asshole electors"
- "vandal voters"
- "klan konstituents"
- "brown shirts"
