Jeffrey Toobin on CNN

Paraphrasing from memory his statement this afternoon: “If Hillary was president and her personal lawyer was under investigation, you’d need a spatula to scrape the Republicans off the ceiling.”

No fuckin’ kidding.

I keep picturing Jeff Sessions et al clinging to the ceiling, waiting for a giant spatula to lift them to safety!

...flip them around so a Democrat is in frame, and the atmosphere would change a lot, and in a big hurry.

16. Exactly! Just pose the rhetorical question - "what if a Democratic president was doing this stuff?

How would you be responding if it was a President Hillary Clinton doing this stuff?

How would you be reacting if President Obama had done this stuff?

The feigned outrage is in their DNA. I remember during the 04 campaign when Kerry said Cheney's daughter was a lesbian in the context of her family's love for her. Nothing really offensive about that considering she was the female spokeswoman for Coors Beer so outing her was off the table.
The Repubics immediately took to the podium to excoriate Kerry as an evil man for doing absolutely nothing wrong. And the media never questioned them as to what Kerry did to offend them.

I always play this mental exercise I call: what if the shoe were on the other foot?

If the above hypothetical were the case, a big if, I reckon we would cross it off to: more Clinton scandal mongering. There would be some sort of gussied up scandal for sure. But how would the Dems handle it?

Sometimes the shoe other foot game exceeds the hypotheticals

Hillary would never send out divisive or insulting tweets. She wouldn't golf or take excessive days off, etc

Another example, Obama would never cheat on his wife, he would never sleep with a porn star

It is frustrating how far down Trump has dragged the honor of the presidency

There'd be a line of attorneys that went around the block several times to 'investigate'.

would have caused Republicans to react that exact same way if Hillary had done it.
