I'll be honest this is SO EGREGIOUS and OUTRAGEOUS I assumed the reporting got it wrong.

Washington (CNN)It appears Democratic leaders in Congress were left off the guest list for President Donald Trump's first state dinner at the White House on Tuesday. Still, at least one Democratic politician was invited -- Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and his wife are set to attend the dinner, his office confirmed.

On Monday, representatives for the top four Democratic leaders in Congress -- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer -- told CNN that their offices did not receive an invitation to the dinner with the French president.

Has this happened ever or in the past 60 years?

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/23/politics/congress-state-dinner-democrats/index.html

I am hearing NO MEDIA allowed either, well no REAL media.

A head of state invited to a state dinner by the corresponding head of state can't break the acceptance of the invitation just because of something occuring below their mutual pay grades that is contained entirely within one nation or the other.

Any reaction to an internal battle is taking sides and risks being interpreted as interference. Alliances have been broken for less. Exceptions would be for unmistakeable violations of civil rights or a pointed insult. For example if tRump invited a wanted French criminal out on bail during extradition proceedings, then the French President would have diplomatic cause for an issue that crosses boundaries.

tRump is getting cocksure and vindictive. It will not end well for him.

They are ill-mannered, urbane sophisticates.

I think where you’re getting confused is that it was ill-mannered hicks that voted for the wealthy elitist boors that so clearly understand the problems of the “little man” so much better than the middle class daughter of a small business owner who is still married (and living in a Tammy Wynette song at times) to a guy who didn’t have running water until he was 12 yet still earned his way into Yale.

I also think many people forget just why Trump understands the plight of the Little Guy so much better than people who actually worked their way up from lowly beginnings: when you live on the top floor of a gold-plated tower, everyone is little to you, all the time. That’s just science. Can’t argue with science.

On a slightly more serious note: we like to blame hicks and especially Southern hicks for this GOP nonsense. There are, indeed, perfectly valid reasons for those stereotypes. I’ve lived in the South and you probably couldn’t pay me enough to move back (although I could be tempted by good barbecue, but I digress). But we conveniently forget things like the fact that the South has statistically less segregated schools, Oregon was founded as a Whites Only utopia, Sin City was known as the “Mississippi of the West” because Nevada was the last state to integrate, Idaho is essentially Alabama except with snow and a conscious choice to have fewer Black people, the continued existence of Scott Walker, and the fact that California gave us both Nixon and Reagan. Even worse, California billionaire Robert Mercer gave us New Yorker Donald J. Trump. We got fucked from both ends, and not in a fun Saturday-night way. These ostensible liberal meccas also apparently enjoy employing police that enjoy shooting unarmed, dark-skinned (and/or poor) people.

Another fun fact: the “J” in Trump’s middle name stands for “Motherfucking Piece of Shit.” Scientific fact. Can’t be debated.
