Sorghum Trade Is Drying Up in U.S. After China Imposes TariffsBy Shruti Singh April 20, 2018, 12:21 PM CDT
Bids for sorghum in the Gulf of Mexico have almost disappeared after Chinas decision earlier this week to impose a 179 percent tariff on U.S. imports, according to grain-handling company Scoular Co.
Theres been very little trade, Bob Ludington, who oversees Omaha-based Scoulars North America grain and oilseed division, said in an interview Thursday. While some U.S. grain elevators are still bidding for sorghum, nobody is looking for it in the Gulf, he said.
Scoular has elevators in Kansas that buy crops including sorghum. The company then ships supplies around the U.S. as well as to Mexico and exporters in the Gulf.

(18,874 posts)Kansas is just a huge mess right now.
I have relatives that live in Johnson County and have most of their lives. They love it there.
I just hate having to drive out there. The traffic is horrendous. And there are just miles and miles of housing subdivisions and strip malls. It is so commercial.
I live North of the River in Missouri. We have lots more open space here. But the urban crawl is heading our way. I hate that. But taxes and land are lower here. And there is great access to the freeways and the airport. And the schools are good.
I have to drive to Liberty ( just East of KCMO) and the traffic there is awful. That used to be kind of a quiet little town. Not any more.

(32,036 posts)What they expected. It's not like 45/140 had any reservations about this during the 2016 campaign. The eejit ran on this, they voted for "It" and now it's catching them on the ass.
Like - I can't waste one iota of empathy or sympathy on them.

(22,205 posts)pres. RUMP's unilateral actions against China via his tariffs and China's response via increased tariffs for Sorghum.
A hugeeeeee market shift. Perhaps this will wake up some of these folks in RUMPland.

They will have plenty of jobs in coal mines.
