This morning, I went by a half-dozen grocery stores in the Northern VA area (Giant, Safeway, Harris Teeter, Trader Joe's, Aldi and the ethnic Food Star).
Only Aldi had pulled their romaine lettuce. The other stores were still selling romaine.
Until these stores start posting signs about where their romaine comes from, I'm not buying it.

(61,974 posts)The CDC says, if you can't confirm it's not from Yuma, don't buy it.

(14,560 posts)I will check out the labels, carefully, or buy from a farm. Gotta have my lettuce.

(14,649 posts)I had just eaten a huge salad when I found out about the recall. In a panic, I went through the trash to find the top, but that only had the brand, sell-by date, logo, "Product of USA", etc. Then I went to the recycle bin to find the box and it had the place of origin stamped there, not far from the UPC code. Mine was not from AZ.
I sure wish we could find a way to make our food supply safe. It's damn scary.

(32,099 posts)That's what was contaminated. What you saw was likely grown elsewhere. My Aldi had Romaine lettuce. I checked the label. It was grown in California.
