Donald Trump said that Michael Cohen won't flip, even though a defendant facing years in jail "will lie or make up stories to stay out of jail".
Any defense attorney defending a client now has those words to work with. When conducting voir dire in selecting the jury, all he or she has to ask each juror is their opinion of Donald Trump. The attorney then attempts to get as many Trump supporters on the jury as possible. When cross examining a cooperating witness, or better yet, during the defense's closing argument, the defense attorney can quote Trump by saying that "it's well known that a cooperating witness will lie or make up stories that the prosecution and investigators want to hear to reduce his sentence or stay out of jail. Even our President, who heads up the justice department that is bringing these charges, agrees with that conclusion."
The Moron-in-Chief has put hundreds of active criminal prosecutions at risk and has made America less safe.

(8,652 posts)No shitting that it's not original. do you think I've been living under a rock for 65 years?
the fact that the person responsible for the justice department, that has over a third of the general public supporting his ideas, spells it out in a tweet, gives it much more credence and makes it far easier for a defense attorney to find sympathetic jurors to respond that plea.

And I don't really care if you've been living under a rock or not. No need to get snarky.

(8,652 posts)Any jury will have at least 3 or 4 of the 12 jurors who support Trump, just using today's polling data. In order to convict, a prosecutor needs a unanimous decision. If the key to the case is a cooperating witness who would otherwise do jail time, but for that cooperation, quoting the Trump would make a hung jury more likely.
