- Instead of studying climate change, we try to ban all studies of it so that we can pretend it doesnt exist. Problem solved! Even ostriches dont really bury their heads in the sand when threatened.
- Money will totally matter when your planet is an environmentally ravaged wasteland.
- We do the same thing with guns. Lets never study how to make a device that can murder people safer! Something designed to kill people has absolutely nothing to do with killing people! An AR-15, for example, is only modeled after a military assault rifle. However, it obviously has hunting implications, and we should pass them out like candy to everyone, including 5-year-olds and domestic abusers. Only then will we be safe!
- We Kill each other because God told us to. Never mind the fact that this God is just like a human (with traits like jealousy and hatred), and chooses not to reveal itself for some reason. We should just accept at face value that God exists, and it loves your money!
- Were so emotional and stupid that an ape-like buffoon like Trump gets elected to the highest position in this country by exerting knuckle-dragging, primate-like acts of dominance over the other candidates. 2020 will consist of candidates slinging shit at each other.
Also, random news stories from Facebook that look like they were vomited out by 1000 monkeys jumping on a type-writer absolutely must be taken as fact. They appeal to our emotions, and everyone knows that how you feel is much more important than logic! If you feel that a story is true, it must at least be as valid as stories from the New York Times!
- We act like a 20-year-old frat douche who surfs Alex Joness websites has an opinion just as valid as scientists who got their doctorate, worked in the field for 20 years, and have actually studied what theyre talking about. Everybodys opinion matters!
- In the event of war with Russia, we will win by firing planet-destroying weapons at them until 99.99999% of people on earth die. Yay! We win!
Ive never felt more angst for this countrys future. It feels like were on a bus being driven by a chimp, and not crashing yet is our version of success.

(23,738 posts)On the one hand, "tool monkeys", to borrow a term, are pretty cool, and we've figured out a lot of stuff. There doesn't seem to have been anything like us before on this planet.
On the other hand, us hominids aren't half of what we think we are. We're 95% the same as any beast you'd find in the wilderness, and often only barely under control through great effort. "What a piece of work is man!" indeed....
All in all, I think we'll be lucky if 10% of us make it through the Anthropocene bottleneck we see looming before us.

(5,122 posts)Just turned in the last of one of my assignments for grad school this Semester. One more Semester to go before I am done whoot who whoot! Anyhow -
Had to do some research on legislation that my nursing Professional Nursing Organizations are working on, lobbying for, promoting, etc
One of them being HR1478 - The Gun Violence Research Act
No surprise here but as I was getting the background information for my paper - I found out it was none other than the NRA that originally that blocked funding for research years ago in the first place! So the people making money off of death, tell us we can't regulate it, can't study it either and we keep electing the politicians that allow it to keep happening.

(25,455 posts)Feelings replace facts and logic and it makes us childish and gullible. I see news reporters ask how people feel all the time: "How did you feel when the tornado nearly destroyed your house with you in it?" "How did you feel when you learned your son was one of the victims?" The way we're not supposed to laugh in the face of people whose opinions are based on absurd degrees of ignorance, heaven forbid we "disrespect" someone.

(7,411 posts)All they're doing is fishing for emotional outbursts (with tears a plus) because it makes the TV reporter's job easier. Just once I'd like to hear one of the interviewees respond, "'How does it feel?' Well, how would it make you feel?"

(51,584 posts)unfortunately. I know Americans are dumber than dirt and have been for as long as I can remember. That is why I said with certainty that the fucking moron would win. I should've placed bets before the election. Most of the people I am speaking with these days agreed to a certain degree and that is why none would have taken my bet.

(47,370 posts)I was aware that there were a lot of truly stupid people, but at that time, there was no Fox News and being they had no interest in politics, they rarely voted. They watched professional wrestling on TV and read the Enquirer. For the most part they were fairly harmless, unless they had too much to drink. Then some republicans saw them as an untapped resource and Fox saw them as potential viewers.
