President Trump late Thursday night trumpeted the release of a series of memos written by former FBI Director James Comey, claiming they exonerated him of allegations that he obstructed justice and colluded with Russia.
"James Comey Memos just out and show clearly that there was NO COLLUSION and NO OBSTRUCTION," Trump tweeted. "Also, he leaked classified information. WOW! Will the Witch Hunt continue?"

Comey's memos have become a flashpoint in an increasingly bitter partisan fight on Capitol Hill tied to whether Trump tried to obstruct justice in the ongoing probe into possible ties between his campaign and Russia.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) was forced to hand over the memos to Congress on Thursday or face a subpoena from House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.). He and other Republicans, including Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), have been investigating alleged anti-Trump bias at DOJ in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.

The memos show that Trump and many on the right are illiterate morons.

(17,865 posts)ie unclassified where the ones that he released to the media. Using unclassified notes and correspondences are what virtually every Cabinet level and agency level official has done when they write their memoirs. Comey did take a bit of a risk by not vetting them first, but no classified information (and I suspect they tried desperately to come up with a plausible reason to classify them).

(115,947 posts)1. The memos weren't classified.
2. They were leaked to the media by the GOPers in Congress after they demanded that Rosenstein turn them over.
3. Comey didn't discuss "collusion" with him; all he said was that Spanky wasn't under investigation at that time.
4. The obstruction occurred when Trump fired him, so of course that issue wasn't discussed in the memos.
5. Obstruction is in the mind of the obstructer, not in that of the person being obstructed. The only thing that matters is whether Spanky had "corrupt intent" when he fired Comey. What Comey thought the motive was is irrelevant with respect to establish an obstruction of justice charge.
