For those whose memory doesn't go back that far, look up Aaron Brown in our archives and watch how our esteemed progressives turned against him on a dime.
DUers can be fickle. Think about it.

(80,693 posts)Tore down Hillary every chance they got, when she was the ONE-AND-ONLY THING standing between us and the damnable situation we're in now. Are they happy NOW? Are they pleased with the results they helped achieve for all the rest of us (and themselves, too)? Are they proud of themselves for their insistence on purity-only and "Perfection Or Bust"? How's it workin' out for them now?

(90,189 posts)I averted my eyes from the subsequent pile-up, but saw enough. You would have thought this was career-ending gaffe of Biblical proportions, and someone said they would never respect her again.
Katy was just trying to be humorous today, and came off kind of silly. So?

(90,189 posts)DU's collective behavior was despicable, including the lead-in where a member was going to appear on his show, and DU went ballistic with unhinged "You better tell Aaron this and that and the other thing too" messages -- which might have had something to do with our DUer's cameo being cancelled.
I was never of the opinion that a television journalist of any stripe walks on water, but I've been a DUer since 2002, and I was ...disturbed.
BigmanPigman
(51,430 posts)from when he was on CNN. When I lived in France he was on CNN in 2005 and I really liked him. When I learned that Anderson Cooper replaced him I was saddened. Why did DU go against him?
Hekate
(90,189 posts)However, after the DU member had his appearance canceled (something pretty damn normal in the broadcast world, right?), there was no mercy to be had here. It was treated not as a kerfuffle, but a black-hearted betrayal. People here rejoiced at the subsequent ruination of Brown's career.
I never understood it -- and I have never forgotten it, either.
BigmanPigman

Rachel tells her story and is still captivating....she does not have to act like a teeny bopper....

(5,210 posts)That highly unprofessional behavior bothers me a lot. It's degrading, IMO. I kept it out of my complaint about Tur thread because I had more substantive complaints, but --- it definitely bothers me.
I've seen Ari Melber treat her with what seemed like significant disdain on a few occasions when she was handing off MTP to him and doing that eye-batting thing. I don't think he appreciates it any more than I do, perhaps less. Or he may have other issues with her, I dunno.
jodymarie aimee
(3,975 posts)the flirting was so obvious....and yes, cringeworthy and juvenile.....Ari is like Lawrence to me...a News God !!!

(32,345 posts)I read Katie Tur's book "Unbelievable" that came out about six months ago.
It's about her coverage of the Trump campaign, and how it was supposed to be only a couple of months until he dropped out. Instead it lasted for a 17 months-of-hell stint and I guess you know the rest. Katie tells us in her book that she's engaged to someone (I believe it's her executive producer) and they're getting married this summer.
She doesn't really mention it until the very end, so it would be easy to miss if someone just quickly skimmed the book. After reading the book I decided I liked her enough to watch her show occasionally.

That is the point: Liberal: Free to think for yourself.
Barbara Bush stated that the people stuck in the astrodome during the Katrina aftermath "Had it pretty good." I remember that.
But, it is the responsibility of major tv personalities to do no harm, and so you can just turn off Rachel if you think she's being too soft on a non-elected official.
She was one really wretched mother, though. If you read "Bush on the Couch," they didn't tell George what was going on when his sister died: He kept wondering where she was.
Dad was gone politicing and ambassadoring and Mom was just unapproachable, and Shrub was basically abandoned.
But I get why Rachel has no desire to shred the woman on national tv.
I see no reason to insult people or question their motives on such a small point.

(46,794 posts)when it comes to journalists and politicians. You can dislike certain things about a person or something they said, and still like them overall.
The purists among us can be maddening, as none of them could live up to their lofty expectations.
I like both Maddow and Tur, though I get frustrated when Rachel over explains things. Still I watch her, as there is always a chance I will learn something new. Katy Tur has been a breath of fresh air at MSNBC, both professional and personable.

(12,882 posts)Remind yourself of the crowd she's delivering to. I write a lot and tend to be long-winded myself. The reason is that if you leave one TINY crack of doubt, you can be sure you'll be drubbed for your lack of knowledge about whatever it is you're talking about.
That said, the wife and I still watch Rachel at least half the time she's on. She's got her delivery honed to a gnat's ass, but here's what you wanna take note of ______________________________________ <-- there's the things you NEVER hear her speak of. She has a whole hour. You'd think she could find a few words about non-Trump stories of the day. But her oversight of them speaks volumes.
PatSeg
(46,794 posts)it feels like she keeps repeating the same thing over and over, as if she needs filler material, because she has only worked on one story. Though it could be a really good story, it may not need an entire hour. I tend to skip forward a lot when I watch her. It makes the redundancy more tolerable.
I agree that she could use a some more non-Trump stories. I know people who don't watch her as often as they used to, because she seems to only cover Trump-Russia.

her creampuff approach to politics. We disagree. Peace.
Hekate
(90,189 posts)And the crowd goes wild, booing and screaming. This happened over and over.
She became his verbal punching bag, his punchline. Out of all journalists there -- out of all the MEN there -- Trump picked the young woman who looked the most defenseless. And like all women, she was trained from birth to smile.
Ha ha She was having the time of her life, you betcha.
I admit my reaction to watching those performances is gendered. Based on his public persona and his boasts, I believe he is a man who hits women.
A-Schwarzenegger
(15,596 posts)Your OP went wrong by linking a serious deep-thinking journalist (Maddow) and a creampuff (Tur). As far as his being a woman-hater I couldn't agree more. I am still surprised that no bodies have turned up in his past, as in dead bodies, female or male. I still maintain Tur was giddy covering his rallies, and he liked her too. She said one little thing that was critical of him (i don't remember what it was), and he never forgave her. As for his cultists who went after her, they all deserve to die and burn in hell, along with trump. However, anybody who thinks she is comparable in any way to Maddow, we simply see different realities. Peace.
Hekate
(90,189 posts)Maddow is deep, and deeply intelligent, both characteristics I prize.
Tur is engaging and quick, with an interesting backstory (her parents were the independent journalists manning the helicopter that covered the news in Los Angeles, including some notable historic riots) -- but beyond that, I just hope she grows more.

I watch CNN. That's what I get via Roku.
I don't get why people turn on TV hosts/pundits when they say one thing or do one interview they don't like. Look at the whole body of work, not just one interview.
"Kindly Doc Maddow" -- the phrase makes me chuckle.

Before we drew such stark lines with our opposition to Trump, we used to be able to be objective about the media without questioning our loyalties for doing so.
