I have not heard much enthusiasm for these guys. Admittedly I didn't pay much attention to them in 2016 but I found them to be good spokespeople for the Dems after the election. What do I need to know about them? I've seen a lot of Tim Kaine on PBS the last few days, is he positioning?

(9,696 posts)Kaine was a bad pic for VP, not his fault, his performance was mediocre.

(91,005 posts)...has declared a candidacy for the 2020 presidential elections.
This is 2018. Every single Representative has to run, and a third (I think) of the Senate. What are you doing about that?
Eyes on the prize, ginny skinny. GOTV.

(30,481 posts)I dont think Kaine will be in. I always appreciate seeing OMalley speaking to a national audience. He wasnt polished as a speaker but he represents us very well.

He might still not be exciting enough for those who think that's what counts. But I think he'll be a solid candidate in the primaries.

(58,785 posts)get our attention, so many big, bright flags that the media can monetize coverage and no one can miss them. And it's too early for that. Wouldn't want us to get bored with them and their flags when the time comes and additional people start campaigning.
There's nothing stopping those who like them from googling to keep up on what they're saying and doing without their having to pay experts to yoohoo at us. After all, we're free to take charge of our political beings instead of waiting to be lead around by our noses and told what to think by campaign managers and talking heads.

Kaine, despite being on the 2016 ticket (or maybe because of it?), has never had a strong independent base of support. He would be a credible 2020 candidate, but certainly not a favorite or even necessarily a top tier candidate based on who else runs.
