As someone who likes to cook, that's not a place where I'd buy food.
I have been known to buy sunglasses there. And a couple of pillows.

I wonder if those countries have our food safety and quality standards.

(15,393 posts)There are websites and other groups dedicated to penny items at DG. I don't know why DG doesn't change how things work, but depending on how long something has been out, the more it's automatically discounted, eventually reaching a penny. Now staff is supposed to clear those items out, but if someone is trying to buy it, they have to sell it for a penny - although some cashiers have balked at it, and when they have, my sister has complained to corporate which resulted in her getting a $20 gift card and promises it won't happen again. I've seen her car's back seats loaded with pajamas, socks, toys, etc. which she then donates to the local Ronald McDonald House. Otherwise, depending on the store, everything might get thrown away.
