(81,673 posts)Comey says Trump morally unfit to be president, possibly susceptible to Russian blackmail
By Matt Zapotosky and Devlin Barrett | April 15 at 9:56 PM
Former FBI director James B. Comey said in his first televised interview since being fired that he believed Donald Trump was morally unfit to be president and that it was possible that the Russians had material that could be used to blackmail him.
In a wide-ranging conversation with George Stephanopoulos broadcast on ABC late Sunday, Comey took aim at Trump in no uncertain terms, comparing his administration to a mafia family, likening his presidency to a forest fire and asserting there was evidence that he had committed a crime.
He said that he would not favor impeaching Trump to remove him from office, because that would let the American people off the hook and have something happen indirectly that I believe theyre duty-bound to do directly meaning through elections. But he made clear his view of whether Trump was fit to hold the position.
This president does not reflect the values of this country, Comey said.

In Interview, Comey Calls Trump Morally Unfit and a Stain on All Around Him
By MICHAEL D. SHEAR and PETER BAKER | APRIL 15, 2018
While ABC aired one hour of its conversation with Mr. Comey, it had conducted a five-hour interview with him, a transcript of which was obtained by The New York Times. In it, Mr. Comey called Mr. Trump a serial liar who treated women like meat, and described him as a stain on everyone who worked for him.
He said a salacious allegation that Mr. Trump had cavorted with prostitutes in Moscow had left him vulnerable to blackmail by the Russian government. And he asserted that the president was incinerating the countrys crucial norms and traditions like a wildfire. He compared the president to a mafia boss.
Our president must embody respect and adhere to the values that are at the core of this country, Mr. Comey told ABCs chief anchor, George Stephanopoulos, on the program 20/20. The most important being truth. This president is not able to do that. He is morally unfit to be president.

Imagine if there was a smoking gun (that he made a specific deal w Putin?) and the GOP was on board with impeachment. It would be the right thing to do.
ginnyinWI
(17,276 posts)If we get the point where, like Nixon, it is obvious that he has to go, then that would be different. Maybe the Repubs in Congress will even grow a spine and signal to their base that he has to go, rather than cowering in the corner afraid to cross the Trumpies.
The only lasting legacy I want him to have is a residual stench and a shudder when anyone thinks about him.

(32,777 posts)if he didn't, Hillary's impending presidency would be "illegitimate" from day 1. But then when asked if would do it again--turn in the letter to the rethugs, knowing it would get trump elected, he said he would because he shouldn't consider the outcome of an election in his decisions. Um... you just got through saying that you made a decision based on what you thought the outcome of the election would be!!!!

(13,133 posts)How much exact cause a biased billionaire owned corporate media had giving someone an edge or not we will have a hard time knowing. In my opinion, it might be a little more for the fact they were trying to put in one of their own, another billionaire (well at least perceived as a billionaire). The fact most common people get their information from the talking heads on television is where I would be looking for reasons on who to blame about the consequences of the distortions placed in front of the public. Of course, Mr. Comey would step into the vacuum created by them. He would want to feel to all that important in making it an issue. The fact he is back in there today doing the same thing is the proof of it. He would step up into the gossip mill and make corporate media's day.
The real owner of this problem should be the corporate owned media outlets and the conflation they gave to the story (obviously done on purpose). It gives them cover also, on how did all this happen? It was Mr. James Comey fault (it's so easy for them)
Then to you could also blame the way our society has been made to operate because it would be the people who need their news compacted into quick blurbs and told how to think about it. It is that they too have their part in this. Everything is a myth, a belief that there is an actual single cause for all of this. The thing is corporate media has all the keys to fill you in on how them myths must be constructed (at least from the establishments perspective)
To me, it all looks like a bunch of BULLSHIT, put into perspective of who actually did what. Corporate media will never own up to the fact that Donald Trump is their creation. They will spin every way from Sunday to tell you otherwise in fact just like they are now

(32,777 posts)when he's getting spray tanned. It's not something that ever occurred to me...as far as the intricacies of how a spray tan works. And I have no problem with Comey including that information in his interview/book, because he has a right to share all of the thoughts that went through his mind when interacting with dump.
I was pleased that Comey acknowledged at least one of his actions may have been a mistake.
Other than that, his behavior during the 2016 Election is still very upsetting. NOBODY deserves to be disparaged and fired in the manner that he was, but at the same time, karma's a bitch.

(5,591 posts)the electing of a pathetically unfit and classless reality show, twisted narcissist thug reeking of foul self-serving adulation into an office eons above his intellectual capabilities thinks they have the ultimate scoop of the modern world:
A commercial laden, soundbite drenched faux dramatic presentation of about fifteen minutes of already teased airtime interview with a man who made a massive mistake and was fired for political gains and a desperate personal vendetta/coverup...with the more interesting quotes buried in a website linked transcript. But painfully and repeatedly reminding us that we have been corrupted and conned out of the most qualified presidential candidate to date under the blanket of deeply ingrained misogyny, cowardice and white male entitlement.
Puke.
