Will Michael Cohen Snitch on Trump?
By Eric Levitz
Michael Cohen does not typically treat those who threaten Donald Trump with tact or courtesy. The presidents longtime lawyer, fixer, and personal pitbull once boasted, If somebody does something Mr. Trump doesnt like, I do everything in my power to resolve it to Mr. Trumps benefit. If you do something wrong, Im going to come at you, grab you by the neck, and Im not going to let you go until Im finished.
On Monday, the FBI did something that Mr. Trump did not like. On orders from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, federal law enforcement raided Cohens home, hotel room, and office, seizing business records, emails, and other documents related to the attorneys ostensibly illegal payment to Stormy Daniels (and possibly to other matters). The president called this measure disgraceful, a violation of attorney-client privilege, and an attack on our country in a true sense.
And yet, Cohen did not grab any FBI agents by the neck, figuratively or otherwise. Instead, he went on Donald Trumps least-favorite news network, and said that members of the FBI that conducted the search and seizure were all extremely professional, courteous, and respectful. And I thanked them at the conclusion.
Asked if he was fearful, Cohen replied, I would be lying to you if I told that I am not. Do I need this in my life? No. Do I want to be involved in this? No.
Around the same time that Cohen made this confession, the Associated Press reported that Cohen has confided in associates that he is fearful of being a fall guy.
These developments combined with Robert Muellers demonstrated talent for turning legally embattled Trump aides into snitches has sparked speculation that Cohen just might sell his boss up the river. Judging by the intensity of Trumps reaction to Mondays raid, that prospect seems to have occurred to the president, too.

(129,938 posts)which would make doing a plea deal for "lying to the FBI" (and whatever few years in prison that entails) to get the other stuff dropped (or majorly reduced). He's probably got the motherlode of stuff.

(10,131 posts)"a) don't flip and in your best case, we have enough to put you away until you're a very old man
or
b) flip now and you'll get out of jail in a few years
Either way, Trump is going down."
He looks soft. I think he'll flip.

(1,474 posts)And like all in trump's orbit, he cares about himself most of all (I probably would too).
Schneiderman is the key to breaking him. New York state charges threatening him with decades of imprisonment, will make him turn on trump in a heartbeat.

(20,787 posts)Hell, he might have tried to explain to the orangatan that he'll never survive a presidency, but we all know how well 45 responds to the handlers. He goes golfing, or holds a rally, and badmouths everyone.

(171,109 posts)Trump could pardon Michael Cohen but it might not save him
State and federal law are different and that might matter for Trumps personal attorney.

(29,098 posts)He is already mulling being the fall guy and is probably making peace with that. He has a mob mentality and will be loyal to the end...Who knows what kind of characters he's in bed with. They could very well kill his family. I don't think he will flip. But it would be Grand Drama if he does....

(15,682 posts)Dirty Don actually paid well and on time. It would take a boatload of money to make a normal person pledge their loyalty to such a greedy bastard. What would it take to buy someone like Cohen?
And if anyone knows that the maggot is loyal to no one it is Cohen.

(31,261 posts)Unless Trump beg for him to be spared. He seem to know things that can get lots of powerful people serious jail time. In prison or out, don't think that he makes it.

(2 posts)I just have not seen anything up to this point in term of NY AG Schneiderman (sp?) filing charges against anyone - Cohen, Manafort, Kushner, etc. Everyone always says that the federal pardon isn't applicable to state crimes - and I get that. I just haven't heard a peep from the NY AG regarding any Investigation, let alone state charges.
