(5,210 posts)I couldn't stand the woman, and yet here I sit with tears streaming down my face, and I can't make them stop.
I suspect it's about mourning a saner past.

(7,814 posts)I'm not crying, but I suspect that my sadness comes from my own mother's death last year. She was 90.
Tell me more about this saner past...

Even though both women were Republican they were fine First Ladies who, like others before and since, have worked hard in the White House--with a notable exception: Melania Trump. She pouts in pictures and so far has done next to nothing for anyone except cost us all an arm and a leg. Well, there was that stark/cold display she designed at Christmas.
When Barbara Bush passes there will be a lot of affection and attention given to honor her from those in the country and all over the world who remember her. I am sure the Obamas, Clintons, and Carters will properly and sincerely show their respect.
I wonder how tRump and his wife will behave.

But she did advance literacy causes because of Neil's dyslexia, so I agree she did do something productive as First Lady.

(11,639 posts)But my point is that they took their roles seriously and did something with them. Not Melania.

(11,639 posts)I seem to remember her swatting away his hand and refusing to travel in the same car or helicopter as him--making him look mighty silly.
It seems to me that she has little interest in what goes on in DC.
One would think that someone who speaks six languages fluently (supposedly) would be considerably more useful than the blonde first daughter is on State visits, etc.
If Melania is half as intelligent as the Trump-designed bio of her claims she is, she should have some interests or hobbies to tap to use as First Lady (besides nude girl on girl photos, fashion, and cosmetic surgery). We know her "pick" of cyberbullying was not inspired in the least. Big yawn there.

I don't take kindly to your comment.
I don't know why you would post this.

(51,308 posts)Why would that be sad? Really?
My mother died in 2017 at 90. Im still sad.
Ill refrain from posting my actual thoughts to your insensitive post.

(14,179 posts)The Grande Madame of the Bush Crime Family lived a life of luxury thanks to her traitorous father in law, and self-serving policies of her brother in law and husband. Now one could say they were sad for someone for whom the world would be a worse place without them. Great writers, or artists, or musicians, or political leaders like Nelson Mandela. Trying to think what great accomplishment or contribution we will no longer have when she goes. All I can remember most about her is her heartless statement about minorities having it good in the astrodome during Katrina and complaining they were escaping to her precious State.
I am sad, in a basic human way, for the feelings of grief that her immediate family will go through I guess. But not sad for the world's loss.

(999 posts)My 93 year recently deceased father was in comfort care for almost a year. Elderly with serious chronic condiditons can make the choice to not be transported to the hospital for every little health incident. Dad had been transported to the hospital from his independent living quarters way too often only to be sent home from ER 10-15 hours later. Once he decided enough was enough, comfort care was put in place and his quality of life actually improved. There was staff available for his daily needs. And when the end was clearly near, never alone or in pain. He died at home, in peace.
I wish for Barbara Bush peaceful days ahead. Prayers with the family.

(79 posts)I was privileged to be in Army EOD in the late 80's and met Barbara and her husband a few times. Barbara always went out of her way to thank us. She always was very kind. However, I now disagree with all of her husband and sons policies. I actually wish the family well during these hard times.
