Two cast members were doing a recurring DeNiro and Pesci characters. The real ones made an appearance in the same sketch. I do not recall the year, but I know I am right.

and then did not come back until the 2008 elections when Fred Armison made such a good imitation of Obama (yes, a white man) and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as Palin and Hillary (respectively). They seem to shine during election years.

And now we watch only the monologues. At my age - old boomer - I find many of the skits juveniles.
