All war....All the time...
Maps, graphics, bloviating pundits and generals.
Dr. Maddow tried last night to include the broader context, a distraction from a President who has lost legitimacy at home and abroad.
The strikes are an important story, but it is not the ONLY story.
Next up......polling that shows a ten percent uptick for President Dennison.
Anyone remember this Cohen fella who may have gone to Prague in order to end American democracy?

I think MSNBC assumes that's how CNN will always be, and they have to keep up with the competition.

(2,795 posts)They all talk about Trump's constant distractions yet they take the bait every.single.time. I was wishing, last night, that one talking head would cover the bombings for about 10 mins breaking in if there was anything new to report - but keep on the Russia stuff.
But no...they saw the shiny object and off they went.

IMO MSNBC is not without sin in generating and spreading propoganda.

(10,849 posts)Cohen, Mueller, Comey, Trump/Russia isn't going anywhere. The Trumpster's Mission Accomplished is the Troll King trolling.
Unless Trump plans daily strikes, this short 'bombs away' drama is not going to win him sustainable points.
I find the whole scenario disgusting but not disheartening. The noose is tightening, one way or the other.

(53,410 posts)This shiny object will lose its fascination in a few days. Even daily bombings would lose their interest quickly. Aerial strikes are something Americans like. If he sends troops the cheerleading will stop. Probably even from Fox.

Hey, at least this way, people ARE hearing news about Cohen, etc. mixed in with the war stuff, when there's normally no news at all on the weekend schedule.

(269,260 posts)I do the clean out closets thing in late November/December and June/July. No hoarding here. These days we rationalize shopping for new stuff. If we buy something to replace one that's old, we give away the old one next day. May just rationalize that pineapple thingy
I am baking a pineapple upside down cake this evening.

I asked my Son to cut up a pineapple for me on Easter Sunday. You should have seen the expression on his face. then I reached in the cabinet, said, Try this!
I would never buy fresh pineapples.

(17,234 posts)Yeah, Mr Trump's ratings will doubtless take a short-term bump, but without blood and gore, pretty lights on TV will get old real fast. The corollary of "If it bleeds, it leads," is "if it don't bleed, see Page 35."

(1,325 posts)So is Mr. Williams awed by the beauty of our weapons again? Where are the anti-war voices on the left? As an American, retired veteran, with a tour of Iraq during OIF3, I am ashamed at the latest salvos and particularly with our fawning corporate media cheerleading more death and destruction at the hands of our military.

(9,675 posts)And then spend the next few weeks telling us how contrived and inconsequential it actually was.
The press doesn't want to be seen in opposition to our armed forces. It would truly undercut their legitimacy (what's left of it).
If they're doing their jobs, though, they will critically assail the mission, its necessity and efficacy, its timing in light of the troubles facing the CiC, its constitutionality vis-a-vis lack of Congressional approval and in light of Republican public statements when Obama considered a similar mission.
Meanwhile, it's Cohen's turn in the barrel. Turn up the volume.

Hi Rachel,
Last night, President Trump successfully diverted the attention of every news show away from Comey's book, Cohen's legal trouble, and Stormy Daniels / Elliot Broidy / Karen McDougal payoffs.
He even chose the hour of your show to make his announcements, which I don't believe was an accident. He chose to take over your hour IMO.
It was an absolute win for him. That concerns me.
What will stop him from using missile strikes or other military actions to redirect attention away from his opponents and give him a platform to look presidential?
Please don't let him do this. Proceed with your show. Let him know he can't hijack the media whenever he wants to.
In gratitude,
