Whistleblower Mary Ellen Belding Advocates for More Female Construction Workers

As a whistleblower, being upon the national stage, who has won many significant battles (but still is in a civil war), there are times that I think I've seen it all, of corporate & government bad faith dealings.

Then someone comes along, like female contractor, turned whistleblower, like Mary Ellen Belding, who surprises - even me.

From the report of Channel 13, in Rochester NY, we learn that Mary Ellen was a successful female contractor, for 30 years.

.
Unfortunately, it appears, her success drew so much attention that several businessmen decided to show Ms. Belding another side of equality, by doing fraud upon Mary Ellen, and her well established business - in the same way crooks defraud men.

It was a simple scam. Men hired Mary Ellen to do construction works; which would fulfil criteria of the hiring of women & minorities...

.....then they wouldn't pay her!

On top of all that, as Mary Ellen explains, unscrupulous men would actually bid for jobs, in her name; and do additional frauds, even more.

Making matters far worse, the New York government that held Mary Ellen Belding, in high praise, had the unmitigated gall to accuse Mary Ellen, of being the one, doing the frauds; which was actually perpetrated by others.

They offered her and easy way out. She blew the whistle!

Whistleblower Belding takes Justice fight to Governor

NY Governor Cuomo was a big supporter of Mary Ellen Balding - that is, until - Governor Cuomo's pals became part of big frauds against the state of New York.

.
Resultant of Mary Ellen's quest for justice, others (like me) are paying greater attention to the particulars of women in the construction workplace, and how they are treated.

Recently, the Crain's publication has pointed out that there are women becoming construction workers; and they are joining Unions (which gives them a greater chance for financial security).

However, Crain's also points out that women amount to only 3% of construction workers; and those small numbers means females suffer - greatly - of taunting and abuses.

As reported by Crains April 13th article, these stats must change.

A great job for NY's women—one they rarely get

The Women’s Building—a future hub for women’s activism that will be constructed in West Chelsea at the former Bayview Women’s Correctional Facility—the NoVo Foundation will assemble a construction team that is at least 35% women, with a specific commitment to ensuring opportunities for women of color. We have made this pledge because the onus is not just on contractors; it’s also the responsibility of those who commission projects to make greater demands for gender equality.

HAT TIP to a warrior, fraud fighter, stand up gal

There are plenty of well qualified women, who are just as tough, tenacious and dedicated; and we need to encourage them to unify - to be more of an impact.

My hat tip to Mary Elen Balding. We are proud to know her as a whistleblower; and ashamed of how much - big brave men - have found more than one way to batter women.
