(26,045 posts)I have contact with a lot of people on social media, not all of whom are political diehards or people who hang around forums like this, and the general consensus is between negative and meh. Most see it as an obvious attempt to distract from Trump's legal problems. Sure, bombs will lead the nightly news (they always do) but, unless we get into a full-on, boots-on-the-ground war (fat chance!), the story will be over within twenty-four hours. The only longer-term effects of this are likely to be negative for Trump, if/when it comes out that these strikes had absolutely zero effect. But, mostly, it'll be forgotten by Monday at the latest.

(5,272 posts)as soon as his short speech ended, regularly scheduled programs started back right away on all but the 3 cable news shows and this strike did not have the theatrical buildup and execution with choreographed rocket videos used the last time Syria was hit. Dud.

(3,208 posts)And so much of the media is all about getting ad revenue. Nothing sells like war.
But it is frustrating. It shows how our society seems to have evolved to be easily distracted and they forget they need to use critical thinking skills.
I do think they can handle covering what is going on in Syria and the domestic issues and what is going on with the environment. They have the time (24 hour news stations abound!) and the reporters. But the way they shift and focus on one thing only is not good.
We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel (thanks to the folks who donate old cabinets to Habitat for Humanity!), but I also need to get my garden seeds in and of course there are always other things going on, but if I did things like the media does them I would not have a garden this year. And I am a person who has chronic pain so doing most of this is hard on the body, but I manage (it ain't fancy but it gets done!) .
There are still a lot of troops working the LAST war, and the media soon forgot that, although it once was the headlines. the
The wheels of justice need to keep churning to get corrupt folks out of government at all levels. And there is a big plastic problem. Water is an issue, too! All these things and more can be on the news in a day.
It's a big country with a lot of resources and smart, talented people. It would be helpful if the main stream media worked with people again and kept all the balls in the air and if the people would all remember to use those thinking skills! We have access to much information, but too many are just sitting and letting others tell us what to look at.
