(35,383 posts)I've emailed my employer about things and had a supervisor show up at my workplace door to tell me that some things should not be emailed. Emails are (in my place of employment) subject to FOIA requests. To subpoenas and discovery.
It's difficult to subpoena oral communications or, since conservation of written communications isn't required in my place of business, paper-based notes.
Want to share a funny cat video? Email your heart out.
Want to reschedule a meeting? No problem.
Want to give background information on something that could possibly be litigated? Put it in writing and you'll have body parts fricasseed and served up to you and your next review.
Of course, a strong claim would be that we don't actually deal with this kind of issue. Based on part of the data, the only part that's visible. That, of course, would be a fallacy--assuming that all the information is visible when much of it isn't. Does this apply in this instance? Dunno. Why don't I know? Because I don't have all the information. Sometimes "IDK" is the only right answer choice.
