Republican allies of President Trump are planning to launch an ad campaign attacking the credibility of former FBI director James Comey in advance of his book tour.
Speculation is high for Comey's book and tour as he is expected to address his unceremonious firing from the bureau by Trump among other controversial issues from his term as director.
The advertising plan, spearheaded by the Republican National Committee and approved by the White House, will brand the former top law enforcement official as "Lyin' Comey" on a new website and in a series of online ads, according to CNN. The phrasing will also be included in talking points sent to Republicans nationwide.
Comey is preparing for a nation-wide publicity tour to follow the release of his memoir.

(10,184 posts)of sympathetic person. His inexcusable meddling in the last weeks of the election gave Trump the presidency. Amazing that Hillary won the popular vote despite the Russians, Comey and the BOBers all savaging Clinton.

There is a section of the FBI in NYC that were big supporters of Trump (the section was even called "Trumplandia" it was so pro Trump)
Comey was told that Giuliani and others were going to go public with a big press conference with all sorts of spurious allegations about Clinton's emails, Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner. Of course, Fox would cover it live (and the other networks would follow suit) if Comey did not re-open the investigation into Clinton.
So, Comey could either re-open the email investigation himself or let Rudy have his big press conference on the evening news. He chose to do it himself and sent the letter to Congress, which was then illegally leaked by Jason Chaffetz to the media. And, the rest is history.

Yeah, no.

(9,967 posts)Please...if is true that Giuliani was going to hold a press conference covered by fox, Comey should have just said, "please proceed".
The whole trump campaign was nothing but smears against Hillary. Everyone knew Giuliani and Fox were trumptsters, so to have them bash Hillary (again) would have looked like just another campaign tactic to defeat her.
But to have the director of the FBI talking about re-opening the investigation ELEVEN days before the election? That took the attack to another level.
Giuliani giving a press conference to Fox would have reek of desperation. Comey, the supposedly honorable, non-partisan Director of the FBI gave weight to the allegations causing irreparable damage just before the election.
Franky, I find he notion that Comey thought that a press conference by Giuliani would cause more damage and so he felt forced to re-open the investigation laughable.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and usually the simplest explanation is the correct one.
Comey saw that Hillary was unstoppable, so he tipped the scale to push trump over the winning line when there was no time for Hillary.s campaign to recover. Not that complicated, really.
