about the GOP working with the KGB.
However, McConnell "wanted no part of having a bipartisan commitment saying, essentially, 'Russia's doing this. Stop,' " he said.
At that point, Biden added, he felt that "the die had been cast" and that "this was all about the political play."

meaning McConnell threatened he would LIE to the public about the intel and what had happened. This is the same piece of human SHIT who prevented the American people from having the SC justice they voted for.
If you tell the people the truth I will lie to them and say it isnt the truth...

(16,949 posts)You know, I wonder what is going through PRESIDENT OBAMA'S mind since January, 2017:
After all he did to rescue this country from financial disaster, improve our standing and relations throughout the world, and work to improve the American experience - to be derided, ridiculed, lied about, attacked, and see so many of his initiatives thrown out the window.................
Certainly speaks for the man's character - and such a shame that SO MANY do not "get it," appreciate it, or understand it.
I'm certain that history will be much kinder to this great man that we have been.

(31,131 posts)Literally saved us from ourselves.
The problem was this black man did not fix every problem 200 years of non black presidents created. So many who are NOT republicans stayed home in 2010 and fucking us.
He fixed many of the problems, like getting ACA but many demanded he fix EVERYTHING
Oh, and in less than 2 years no less.
MyOwnPeace
(16,949 posts)1. Those same people who stayed home in 2010 did the same thing in 2016
2. You are SO right about the "2 year fix" thing: had to fight the "Blue dogs" (Democrats in name only).
And, of course, we had McTurtle's pronouncement that the Pugs would make sure that PRESIDENT OBAMA was a 1-term president.
Amazing that he EVER got ANYTHING done!

(7,725 posts)Probably set the correct things in motion, and hasn't looked back. I wish it was different, but, nobody signs up for a lifetime gig. See both Bushes, Clinton, Carter etc. These guys move on. As they should. I sure miss President Obama, but, why should the man stress about all of us when it sure seems like he gets continuous flack and blame for everything.
How many times can one man fix the country? Mrs. Obama was thoroughly through with all of it near the end and wanted him to rest and be her husband. Who can blame her?
At some point a new wave of concerned and able people need to learn the lessons and move on. Sec. Clinton was literally drove into the ground for trying to serve her country. We let it happen. this is what we have. Our republic is our responsibility. There's a price for freedom and I'm not referring to guns and bombs. We need to move our feet like teachers and students have done recently. Is it un nerving? Sure is. But, nowhere in the world is it just a free ride in these types of situations. We can't "just vote'. We HAVE to get a move on. Sitting behind a computer is nice, (including the very words I type myself), but that doesn't get done what we need.
The Boston Tea Party is American History for a reason. It was scary. but, Patriots swung into action. The 60's hurt, but, people put their shoes on, and made a sign and showed up. We have to show up again. OUTSIDE.
We have to be braver than some comments on the computer. Once you start, it goes easy. Find a protest partner. Make a plan. Then roll. If it requires a bus ticket. Find out how to get one. If it requires walking...make a plan. If it requires a drive...carpool it with someone who can do it...and PARTICIPATE in making it happen. Usually that starts w saving some money, (not much) but gas money, etc. make some sandwiches if you have to. Don't expect people to pay your way, but, if it happens as a result, ALL the better. It doesn't have to hurt. It's fun once you start, and when you're back home...wow. The feeling of accomplishment stays with you for a long time. And you realize, it wasn't that hard. This country has had it too easy for too long. The unions are gone, our jobs have taken flight. Our spirit is broken, but, that can be fixed. We are so lucky to have had president Obama and Clinton. Time to get going. Prepare, put some stuff together, and DO IT.
Lastly, GET YARD SIGNS EARLY, and GET THE STONES TO TAKE A STAND. How much worse can it get? Often when you lead, others follow. BE the change you want.
That's just my two cents. Ride on.

(32,854 posts)I was a regular (daily) reader on the Gawker blogs before the election in 2016.
This Russian interference stuff was all over Gawker & Buzzfeed at the time, including rumors about the FBI investigating/not investigating. There was a top secret meeting with Obama, Biden, Pelosi, McConnell, Ryan, (a few others) and all the security chiefs. They briefed Obama on all the stuff they had at the time - before the election - and Obama believed that he could not cancel or postpone the election because of it.
In that meeting McConnell told Obama that if he tried to cancel/postpone the election, it would lead to an armed civil uprising and it would accomplish nothing. This should be on record somewhere in the minutes of that meeting, and I completely believe that McConnell should be impeached because of this. It's proof of his collusion.
Quite possibly the DU reporters covered it too, but I don't know because I didn't join DU until after the election.

(62,444 posts)The United States does not even have some sort of federal election mechanism. (the FEC merely administers certain formal rules in relation to federal candidates)
The elections are conducted by each of 50 states and a smattering of territories.
The federal government would have no ability, mechanism, or authority, to "cancel or postpone" an election.
The entire proposition is, at best, ignorant uninformed childlike thinking.
Eliot Rosewater
(31,131 posts)Of course all he would have done was suggest that WE deserved to know the truth.
And McConnell probably just came right out and said, in that meeting, that he would lie to us.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)The federal government does not even administer elections.
This notion - that somehow the president could cancel or postpone an election - is a peculiar piece of paranoia that crops up on both right and left from time to time.
It is fantastically idiotic, and intended to be believed by idiots.
If you believe such bullshit, please describe the mechanism by which it could possibly even happen.
Draw me a diagram of how President Obama would tell, for example, the State of Idaho, "No, you are not going to administer an election."
It is outright and complete nonsense.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)But I think if there were something dramatic enough happened like Chicago was nuked the Sunday before the election, s/he could 'call for a 1 month postponement', and the governors of all 50 states would then collectively all agree to it, and do so.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)Governors do not have any sort of unilateral authority to simply waive the operation of law, when there are dates hardwired into the statutes.
The presidential term expires January 20 at noon every four years, and there are a number of unchangeable dates in statutes based on that.
The US managed to conduct elections during the middle of an outright civil war. Get real.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)I would bet you money a presidential election would get postponed, one way or another, law be damned.
Although perhaps only the state(s) where it happened would not vote that day, and the rest would go about theirs, hard to say.
