Just fyi.
I remember last year when it was reported that the fed offered certain states assistance, after they rec'd information that the Russians MIGHT or HAD interfered with their election systems. Few, if any, states took them up on that offer.

(37,648 posts)It said some states are not doing what the fed is suggesting, so the fed recommends some laws for the states (having to do with cybersecurity & such), and so far, the SENATE & HOUSE are not moving on that (it would be up to Congress to propose a bill for that).
I think that was the gist of the ending of the story. And mid-terms are 7 mos. away.

(10,178 posts)did not follow through at all. This, after months of trial runs and preparations. How likely is that? They also said that Homeland Security had to be very careful because Trump repeatedly said he thought the election would be rigged. Such bullshit. Trump knew it was rigged!
They keep calling it election "meddling," you know. like when the Bushies got everyone calling terrorists "folks" (as the Bushies secretly beat them to mush with rubber hoses at Abu Ghraib).
I turned it off and turned on AFV. Totally sick of the propaganda.

(35,383 posts)Or even the voting machines themselves. "Election systems" is a weasel phrase in this case.
They hacked registration systems. Some states used backups. Some had already printed. Nobody reported that records had been changed or voters disenfranchised.
Now, there are no reports that nobody checked to see if databases had been altered. Then again, nobody reported on the mysterious absence of a lack of air in Houston. In other words, maybe the dog barked and nobody paid it the slightest attention, maybe the dog didn't bark but, you know, dogs sometimes don't bark. Arguing that it happened because it might have happened because, well, nobody's reported that anybody's checked to make sure it didn't happen seems weak. Sort of like air is a weak support for holding up a car.
I have to assume if they'd done anything noteworthy thousands of people would have complained and/or the local BOEs would have noticed and said something. While we complain about (R) election officials at the state level, most real irregularities tend to occur in towns and cities with (D) majorities and either non-partisan, bi-partisan, or openly (D)-partisan BOEs.

(37,648 posts)BS. Going through all that effort & expense over a long period of time, just to change some addresses to create some chaos? BS.

2) lynchings of black Americans and the memorial and informing work being done. I was deeply moved and applauded the segment.

(10,178 posts)I got so pissed at the fluffy Russian espionage story, they call it meddling, I stupidly missed the lynching memorial story.
I apologize for ignoring that segment and I'm sorry I missed it.

(6,344 posts)CBS morning show often does a segment follow up from the 60-minutes reporting on Sunday would be your best bet.
It needs to be seen again and again and again... Everyone needs to see that reporting done. It was so well done. Shocking and horrifying and the healing memorials being done for balance. Very nice!

(26,663 posts)I'll be looking for a rerun of the lynching story.. Hoping to visit the memorial next year. I read the EJI report a couple of years ago.. a story of terror like you've never read and it all really happened. That report should be taught in every school in America.

(22,028 posts)in the run up to the election regarding doing anything to actually try to
detect election tampering by the Russians as stated in "Russian Roulette".
Guess they were betting (badly) that Hillary would win anyway.
The administration was persuaded by McConnell and Ryan to keep mum because it would
be construed as interfering on behalf of tbe dmocrats and Clinton.
WTF!!
FakeNoose
(32,841 posts)I don't have any inside info on this, but it has always been my gut feeling that the polls that showed Hillary way out in front had to be FAKE. Either the Russians hacked the polls or Cambridge Analytica was somehow involved with it.
How sure were the Democrats that Hillary was going to win? We were all so sure, especially when Trump's pussy-gate tape came out. Those same polls convinced Obama to not do anything against the Russians hacking before the election, because Hillary was probably going to win.
Now we hear that Susan Rice called the FBI back from investigating the election hacking in individual states. Those polls made everyone so sure that Hillary would win. Where did those numbers come from? Why did we believe them?
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)The campaigns do their own polling, and they're pretty good at it. No way that Hillary's polling said she win PA, and then she didn't.
She KNEW from their own polling that the Comey press conference did damage and changed her momentum. But she was still ahead in the polling...both her own and the public polls.

(9,526 posts)I said to my friends, I've seen this before. Just like 2004. Defies the polls. I was pretty sure they were going to steal it when all that came out about hacking database in summer of 2016. I was not confident Hillary would win after that.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)I didn't KNOW Trump didn't win. But I suspected that he didn't. Nothing made sense. It didn't jive...and we knew Russia was doing SOMETHING (we didn't know how much, at that time). But almost all the polls had Hillary in the lead in the places where Trump was a surprise win. TRue, her momentum was headed down, but I suspected something was wrong, because how likely would it be that she would have lost in SO MANY places where she had a decent lead. I've seen a few elections in my day, starting with the Carter vs Reagan one. This one didn't seem quite right.
