I vaguely remember doing it. I probably specified one of my interests as being DIY.
As a result, I get several emails a day from them related to whatever interests I signed up for. I usually just shit can these emails, but sometimes I look through them to get ideas, and then delete them.
I have insomnia and early awakening, so I have a routine that when I get up in the middle of the night, I groggily go through my emails. I did just that about an hour ago.
One of the Pinterest emails was about having an organized workshop. The first photo said something like "workshop organization", but preceding these words was something written in the Russian language. Looked like 3 or so words in Russian. A few pictures later in the email was a picture of the same workshop, and it just said "workshop organization" without the Russian words before it.
Being half asleep, I just kind of said "wtf" to myself, and then deleted the email as I normally do. But now that I am waking up a bit, I'm really thinking WTF. I've never seen anything like that before in these emails. I'm probably just paranoid, but if anyone has any clues about what that was about, I'd be interested in knowing.

That link took me to a page with a zillion photos of woodworkers' setups:

It didn't look sinister to me -- just pics from Family Handyman and other photos of people's workbenches, tools, and hardware/lumber storage hacks.
Who knows? Maybe Руслан Киян is just a lonely hobbyist hoping Home Depot will open a location in Volgograd.
Til then, there's Obi.

(1,009 posts)for over 6 years now. Never seen a russian pin, but I haven't been so active the past 2 years.
I make it a rule to never click onto a russian website, and would also make it a rule to not click a pin with
russian language, which could take you to a russian site. Because there could be click baiting here for
nefarious reasons.
I also turned off notifications for pinterest, and don't normally click on links from emails, even if it's from
some website I belong to or do business with, unless I'm expecting a notification that I prompted.
It's just good internet practice to avoid getting hacked.

As others have commented, these are probably just everyday Russian people (with whom we have no complaint, you know) and are just fine. I too turned off notifications, btw.
