Romney 'will not be watching' Ann's horse compete in Olympics

Romney 'will not be watching' Ann's horse compete in Olympics

By Robin Abcarian

First, there was the headache over the dog.

Now, the horse.

When it comes to animals, the Romneys can’t seem to win.

In what many felt was a disastrous interview with NBC’s Brian Williams on the eve of Friday’s opening ceremony for the Olympics, Mitt Romney first insulted the British people by expressing concern about security preparations and the excitement level of the citizenry. (That led to widespread mocking in the British media, a poke by London Mayor Boris Johnson and a sideways swipe by Prime Minister David Cameron.)

He then strained the credulity of the folks back home when he declared that he didn’t know a thing about the competition in which his wife’s horse, Rafalca, will be participating, starting Thursday.

Many wondered whether it’s possible that a devoted husband and Olympics expert like Romney could spend millions of dollars buying, training, feeding and transporting a horse and its world-class rider around the world to dressage competitions -- of which the Olympics is the pinnacle -- and have no idea what is going on.

2. While Ann and Mitt have a typical "dressage queen" relationship

She's the rider, he's the bank, I'd guess he probably really doesn't give a shit about the sport. That would be typical from what I know.

I am honestly shocked he'd admit he won't even expend one minute watching this for his wife's sake, if nothing else. This is HER passion. He really has shelled out big bucks for this (ostensibly because he loves her and knows how important this is to her) it strains credibility that he wouldn't at least watch it with her.

I've known a lot of dressage queens in my day. When it comes to the 'big competitions", the spouse/partner/SO usually finally makes an appearance. this is about as big as they come and the callousness is bad. Really bad.

You know, I am the most important entity in this family with my sons, in order of birth, next, then my daughters, because they can make allies with other Mormon families and then comes the wife...

5. What do you make of the stories that came out back in April that HE personally selected the music

for Rafalca's routine? Was that the lie, or is his uninterest the lie?

I have a hobby that my husband is not interested in. I take ballroom dance lessons and occasionally perform a dance with my teacher. My husband does come to watch/take video at those events, but he would never presume to select music that I should dance to.

6. I hadn't heard that but it's not surprising. I think Mitt lies whenever its convenient.

He can't even keep the lies straight. Right now he's getting slammed for the elitist money thing so he's distancing himself from the horses (but its only making him seem even MORE out of touch!)

I have absolutely no idea what the truth is here. The guy's an ass

7. I can't find the original intervew at Chronicle of the Horse website, but apparently that tidbit

came from Ebeling. Also, it's not clear to me if this was a different routine done in the past or the routine they're doing for the Olympics. Something's not adding up. I bet Mitt's advisors suggested that it would be better to distance himself from the Olympics dressage competition.

In an interview with the website "Chronicle of the Horse," Rafalca's trainer, Jan Ebeling, said Mitt Romney selected the music for the horse's routine at an international competition; Ebeling, in another interview, said the former Massachusetts governor, inspired by his wife, "really enjoys the horses."

Since we won't get coverage until 4 hours after the competition has been decided if you watch NBC. We'll know so far ahead who won, we won't give a damn about the competition.

This has been the most pathetic coverage of the Olympic games I've ever seen, not to mention blathering hosts that won't be quiet and let viewers watch.

where it says "Appear to forget the Labour Party leader's name", add -

"Cancel the scheduled meeting with the "opposition party" in Israel (also the Labour Party)"
