..i dont plan to either. Ppl have to use common sense when they are using a FREE site. Of course free sites gather data.. thats why they are free. Dont give up anymore info than you want the entire world to see.

This is like saying one has to give up BACON because its fatty and salty.

I don’t go to it as often as I use to but I do like it.

Most of my younger friends are on Instagram or Snapchat.

Plus some key support groups I'm a part of.

Facebook is the launching point to a larger discussion of privacy on the internet that needs to be had. Almost all main services that are used have the same issue. A mass exodus of one - which isn't happening even though it "seems" like it through the news reporting - isn't going to alter anything.

I see what my family and friends have posted, and maybe post something. That's the only time I use it. I don't do anything else on it. I never even look at the ads that show up. It works for me as I use it. I don't really see any reason to cancel my account. My page is set at Friends Only, and there's very little personal information there. Family and friends. That's it. It still works fine for that.

do with a site that actively helped tRUMP and actively seeks to destroy our democracy. I can communicate with those I need to thru other means. And further, I will not do business with any company where the only means to do so is through FB.

I use FB to stay connected to a loose global eco-spiritual community of interest. I don't use it for politics.
Hell, I don't even use DU for politics much any more.

Plus, I never do what others tell me to do.

It's only for my other interests--cat rescue and vegetarian cooking and things like that. And I get updates from some extended family members.

When I want to sound off, I come to DU!

I have all my political and news feeds coming in on Twitter.

I have had under 30 FB friends since I joined years ago. I do not friend people just because I tangently know them or know their friends.

Some groups I am a member of use FB regularly and I do not want to lose that access.

I have never allowed an App to use my FB, but over the years did take a few "surveys" and created two of those "about me" lists that could be used by marketers. I did just delete most of my activity (including comments and likes of friends pages and public pages).

I put lots of posters I kept on snooze for 30 days and will most likely delete them if I find I do not miss them.

they already have your data so the damage is already "done"....deleting info related apps will help in the future, as well as tightening up your securities to the maximum. The biggest culprit for personal info gathering were the senseless "quizzes", thankfully I never fell for those.

Personally I "removed" all apps that were attached to Facebook per his suggestion. He did as well, but is not going to delete his account YET.... He will keep me informed as more info is released and I'll post what I find out.....

I have no links, just a personal conversation with a good friend.
