Michigan Humane Society is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the bizarre desecration of a female black pit bull terrier. The dog was found dumped on a Detroit street with a rope tied tightly around her neck and white graffiti spray-painted all over her body.
The dog, believed to be two or three years old, had the letters P B S scrawled on the left side of her body while other markings were painted in white on her back, sides and legs. Animal cruelty investigators are waiting for the results of a necropsy to determine how the pit bull died.
Ironically, MHS officials say the graffiti taggers were probably not the ones that killed the dog. Detroit, which is estimated to have a thousand homeless dogs, is seeing an odd trend in graffiti artists who target the bodies of dead animals.
MHS spokesperson Kevin Hatman said for taggers, a dead dog is as much a blank canvas as a wall or abandoned house.
