(60,352 posts)For the next week and a half, I work with a guy who claims he is so smart, always telling everyone he knows more about everything than anyone.
One day he was telling me he was an aircraft mechanic in the Marines, I asked him why he was not working for a local airline where he would make far more than his just above minimum wage. Shut him down right there.

(748 posts)Dumb people think they're smart.
Smart people just wonder why everyone else can't understand things.

(5,754 posts)I've lived my whole life with very smart people, and none of them ever mentioned it.

(234 posts)Unless you attended one of the meetings of the high IQ society, you would never know who the members are. By and large, most are very humble about their gift. Also they come from all walks of life.

(9,426 posts)his offspring inherited his "genius". They all seem sort of dim witted, especially Beavis and Butthead. Ivanka has to resort to stealing other people's fashion ideas, how smart is THAT?

"My IQ is one of the highest!"
Sigh.

(11,804 posts)Truthfully I am one of the smartest people there ever was - but I only let on once in a while, and always in private. I would never openly announce how very very smart I am.

The Conductor
(180 posts)The old conductor's law:
- People who believe they are smart and actually are do not often get into trouble.
- People who are not smart and know that do not often get into trouble.
- Even People who are smart and believe they are not so smart do not often get into trouble.
- For round-the-clock, Jackass-style, hold-my-beer-and-watch-this stupidity, you need someone who thinks they are very smart, but are actually very not.
This is a direct result of the Dunning-Kruger Effect, as described by social psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger. Their theory states that the cognitive bias of superiority stems from an inability to self-analyze, because the very skills necessary to evaluate their own competence are missing. From any evidence at all, does Trump seem like the sort who would have an accurate self image? I give you the guy who said about Puerto Rico: "This is an island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water." Something an intelligent five-year-old would never have said, understanding that he/she would either sound like an idiot, or would be explaining something that anyone but idiots would already know.
Wake up and smell the covfefe, Trump is one dumb bag of hair!

(17,998 posts)Trump does not have any, just like he is not smart!
I keep thinking of Tillersons wife telling him, God was not through with him yet!
He should take the SOS job. Wonder what she said when he was notified by tweet he was fired?
Is God through with him now?

(15,261 posts)On many levels Trump knows the truth about himself. As a child he was very embarrassed when he was required to read aloud in class something that he found highly embarrassing. Donald has spent his entire life trying to compensate he wears his ignorance as a badge of honor as he hides his reading disability.

(16,296 posts)When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.
I was the smartest person in the world at one time, but the older I got I began to realize that my ignorance was profound.
