Hopefully the Romneys enjoyed Londons tribute to socialized medicine- - - BECAUSE:
Universal healthcare is one of the core values of British society.
Mitt Romney walked out of the stadium at this part.
Danny Boyle paid tribute to the NHS during the Olympics opening ceremony because universal healthcare is one of the core values of British society.
The health service was featured as one of Britain's proudest achievements during the £27 million spectacular.
Boyle said the NHS was an "amazing thing to celebrate" and dedicated a whole section of his show to the health service.
More than 600 real-life nurses and other healthcare workers joined Boyle's army of volunteers during the extravaganza.

(10,622 posts)to profit based rationing as well.
It is as you said, something to celebrate and quite the opposite of their point, we should be insulted by their support of the "profit free national approch" that would suck so bad if we had that garbage here rather than the Insurance cartel obligations that we have.
The Heritage Foundation was right all along and we should celebrate their ideas.

Wonderful to see him get worldwide recognition while he's still in our midst.

I think a lot of this pride in our (Canada and UK) national health care systems has a lot to do with the American media continuously attacking it. Seriously. We are sick of all the stupid lies. Kudos to the UK for honoring their system in front of Mitt (chuckle).

(23,616 posts)He happened to mention to me the other day that he can't figure out why people here don't want national healthcare and he said he is afraid to go to the doctor in the states.

(8,646 posts)I think it's pure propaganda and brainwashing. The looks on their faces when you tell them about the care you receive is like someone who didn't know humans landed on the moon and is finding out 40 years later.
I don't get, though, why he would be scared to go to the doctor - unless he is afraid of the bills and/or insurance paperwork. When I hear my American friends talk about the fights with their insurance companies, I think I might just avoid doctors even if I had good coverage for that reason alone. Sounds way too intimidating.

(28,089 posts)as we're constantly told how awful the NHS is and that most the people in the U.K. hate it. Just as we're told most Canadians hate their system and so on and so on.

(5,693 posts)You know how we can fight with our siblings but no one else better insult them? That's what is starting to happen regarding health care. The Brits love to complain about their healthcare, but they would not trade it for a million bucks. And YOU had better not insult it, either.

Great stuff at any rate.
As a child, Great Ormond Street saved my quality of life, and very likely my actual life; so that was very moving.
