Hmong Candidate Wins DFL Party Endorsement in Saint Paul, MN District

https://www.twincities.com/2018/03/10/dfl-endorsing-conventions-back-john-lesch-jay-xiong/

State Rep. John Lesch handily won the endorsement of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party for re-election on Saturday after a single ballot, and his former legislative aide Jay Xiong earned the party endorsement for the House District 67B seat representing St. Paul’s East Side. Assuming they face no significant opposition during the August primary, both men will appear on the ballot this November.

The current incumbent for that state legislative district had chosen not to run for re-election. With the endorsement, Xiong has an excellent chance of election in that traditionally Democratic district. St. Paul's East Side has already elected a Hmong candidate for its State Senate District 67 seat twice. This reflects a high number of Hmong immigrants who have chosen to make their homes in that part of the city. Strong GOTV in the Hmong community sets a new standard for DFL Party campaigning and should be used as an example in other races. Voter turnout in that part of St. Paul is higher than in other districts on a regular basis.

BTW, I live in district 67a, adjacent to that candidate's district. Everyone's state legislative elections should be a powerful reason to go to the polling place in November and to bring others with you. We can change the nation, one district at a time.
