Indicting a sitting president? What if Mueller finds sooo much bad shit on RUMP that he decides not to let congress make this decision? Is this a possibility? (I HOPE SO)

(7,429 posts)It means that Trumpy controls the Judicial Branch of the federal government, and that means that Putin is in charge of the entire infrastructure. He now is in control of two of the three branches, and Trumpy is itching to take it all down. If that happens...

(7,429 posts)Mueller knows that the GOP Congress is frozen in place. They can't go forward with anything because Congressional GOPers have received Russian payments of laundered money in 2016. It's all in Mueller's basket of evidence. So he likely will have to criminally indict Trumpy, bypass Congress, and place the issue in the hands of the Courts. He'll also recommend charges for an impeachment trial, but knows that there is little stomach in Congress for this kind of truth-telling.
This shows how much the entire nation, governed by the Constitution, is in peril. During Watergate, the legislative branch wasn't a knowing participant in Nixon's scandals. Not so with Trumpy. The legislative and executive branches of the federal government have succumbed and surrendered to Putin's coup, leaving only the Judicial Branch as the guardian of the republic. Our nation's integrity is hanging by a thread.

(58,785 posts)He doesn't need congress's approval, and I'm just guessing that he doesn't see manipulating congress -- beyond repelling their attempts to shut down the investigation and impede justice -- as part of his job.
We, the electorate, are the ones who could force the Republicans controlling congress to act by our response to what the investigation reveals.
He does need his boss's approval to indict a president, and then that would be taken to the courts to determine if a president can be indicted (Ken Starr felt he could, but Mueller now has less power by law). Big hole in the law here. Aside from that little detail, other steps such as impeachment, trial, and removal would be congress's job. And likely the courts'.
If charges were in order against Trump, it's very possible that at this point or possibly before congress would negotiate an agreement between parties on how to proceed, such as letting him resign as Nixon did. They don't even have to show us the report Mueller submitted to his boss.
Again, though, this would be a political power decision, with national support or lack of it a very huge factor.

(10,951 posts)BUT - if Mueller can find evidence of a wider conspiracy that crosses international lines and breaks laws in other countries I would hope that the International Criminal Courts.
There is always the option of foreign countries indicting Trump and his family if they violate the laws of those countries. Just like Mueller has indicted some Russians.
If Trump is stupid enough to shoot off some nukes or otherwise start a war that might gain the attention of the International Criminal Courts. There was a time some foreign countries wanted to indict Bush Jr. for his wars.
