1. Get rid of the white boxes behind the lettering

A nice black drop shadow behind the letters might be nice. Also center the second line of the bottom quote directly under the first and remove the periods from NRA. The red is a good touch. Other than that, I think it's really good.

5. Yes I'm probably going to screenprint the wording on the poster

So there won't be any white boxes. This is just a quickie layout that I made when I got the idea.

3. I would incorporate the graphics used on the poster for the March

which has the "cut out chain" of boy and girl silhouettes next to the muzzle of the gun. Here is their poster so you can see what I mean. I am going to the March and have made tons of protest signs for the rallies I have gone to in the past 18 months (I am an illustrator). That would be a stronger image than the gun alone.

There will already be lots of people with posters with their artwork on it.
I'm planning something different.

6. Perhaps incorporate the graphic image of a "cross hairs/target" symbol.
Tue Feb 27, 2018, 05:30 PM
Feb 2018

It is pretty obvious but well known and will make a good, signal message that is easy to recognize. You could make it red and huge and have it on top of/over all the words, etc on the rest of the sign without obstructing your other words/images. Scroll down on these links.

Other people are printing the image of Emma but that may not be unique enough.

8. I can't post images on my touchscreen tablet.

In the past I sent my pictures to a fellow DUer who converted them to links to share. I posted two older posters (oldies but goodies last night) which I will use at the Border Wall protest in San Diego.

11. Here's my other design, maybe this one is better?

My sister likes the Hey-Hey-NRA poster better.
But we're marching together so probably she'll carry one and I'll carry the other one.

12. I came up with "Weapons of Classmate Destruction"
Tue Feb 27, 2018, 06:20 PM

maybe 2 centered lines

Weapons of Classmate
Destruction

I like this poster better than the first, btw.

I wish I could be there. Hotels too expensive in DC

13. We're marching in downtown Pittsburgh
Tue Feb 27, 2018, 06:24 PM

It won't be nearly as big as the one in DC, but we know a lot of people who are going so it should be fun.

Weapons of Classmate Destruction - that's good!

Thanks

14. Why not make back to back posters?
Tue Feb 27, 2018, 06:29 PM
Feb 2018

That is what I have been doing. I am broke and art supplies are expensive. So I reuse mine by cutting and pasting. I also make them back to back so that people in front and behind can see them. What I have done is get a large piece of foam core and I use a light 1/2" thick wooden dowel (round and easy and comfortable to twirl) and use clear packing tape to tape it to one side of the foam core. I get two large pieces of white poster board and draw my current image for a particular rally on it. I do that for two separate posters on the lighter weight poster board and seal up the two sides and top with clear packing tape making a giant sleeve/pocket. I slide it down over the foam core with the dowel and tape up the bottom side to secure it. To reuse it I use an xacto knife to slice the tape at the bottom and pull it off of the foam core/dowel foundation and I can reuse it over and over. If I like an image or part of one I just get the knife and slice out the part I like from the poster board and glue it to another/different new sign if it fits with the image and message for the next rally.

I make signs for other people, like my sister, and this way we are able to show 4 ideas instead of only two. If you go to a lot of rallies like I do you will see how this makes a lot os sense and is economical as well as more visible which it the whole point in the first place...get your messages out there!

15. I made back-to-back posters for the March for Science last year
Tue Feb 27, 2018, 10:34 PM
Feb 2018

My signs were really good too, but the organizers made me take them apart when we got to the march. I was really upset because the signs were ruined. I wouldn't have even brought them if I had known.

In Pittsburgh they won't let protesters carry signs that have been mounted on sticks or poles. I guess they think people start fights with them or something. So anyway most people put strings on their posters and wear them around their neck. If you don't do that you have to hold them up and your arms get very tired. It's especially hard if it's windy or raining.

I have been to 13 rallies and that never happened in San Diego. The wind is a problem and my arms definately feel it for days afterwards.

Maybe it was Rachel.

My generation went after LBJ for not getting out of Vietnam:
Hey! Hey! LBJ! How many kids did you kill today?

Well done you for bringing the update to a protest poster.
