Florida students plan March For Our Lives, Mar. 24.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/florida-teen-shooting-survivors-announce-march-washington-demand/story?id=53178265

Teen survivors of the school shooting massacre in Florida last week are calling for a march on Washington to demand action on gun control.

Student organizers of the protest told ABC News' "This Week" Co-Anchor Martha Raddatz on Sunday that they are determined to use protests and political action to make the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida, a turning point in the national debate over gun control.

“People keep asking us, what about the Stoneman Douglas shooting is going to be different, because this has happened before and change hasn't come?” Cameron Kasky, an 11th-grader told Raddatz. “This is it.”

Called "March for Our Lives," the demonstration in Washington is to be on March 24, according to Kasky and four of his classmates whom Raddatz also interviewed -- Emma Gonzalez, David Hogg, Alex Wind and Jaclyn Corin.

In addition to the march in Washington, the organizers also plan protests in other cities around the country.

Asked them if they intended to partake in the walkout and they said yes.

Asked if they were doing it just to have a day off or to make a statement. Both said to make a statement.

Told them that I'd back them 100% on it since their mother wouldn't want them to do this for various reasons.

I retired from teaching 3 years ago and these kids are making me cry as I think of it happening to my former students. They deserve our total and absolute support.

It takes time to organize. This is going to be in DC plus other cities. I don't doubt their seriousness for one second.

I wonder if it's their spring break?

One guy is telling teachers to go on strike on May 1st.

In many places teacher strikes are illegal and unless every single teacher in the state of Texas goes on strike, it won't work. Punishment for striking is automatic revocation of teaching certificate and retirement pay. No due process. Social Security is not withheld, so we won't have that to fall back on. We would lose everything we worked for 35 years.
