Again, people...rather than heated rhetoric, when will there be intelligent dialog on gun violence

http://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/TUTORIAL/GUNS/GUNSTAT.html

"Gunshot wounds impact severely on the criminal justice as well as health care systems. Some basic statistics are important in understanding the magnitude and severity of the social and economic burden to the U.S. The subject remains contentious. (Glantz and Annas, 2009)

In the U.S. for 2010, there were 31,513 deaths from firearms, distributed as follows by mode of death: Suicide 19,308; Homicide 11,015; Accident 600. This makes firearms injuries one of the top ten causes of death in the U.S. The number of firearms-related injuries in the U.S., both fatal and non-fatal, increased through 1993, declined to 1999, and has remained relatively constant since. However, firearms injuries remain a leading cause of death in the U.S., particularly among youth (CDC, 2001) (Sherry et al, 2012)..."

thirty-one thousand, five-hundred thirteen firearms related deaths in 2010.

The habit of catch-phrase, name-calling debate is over. We need dialog. We need, as a nation to look at and honestly TALK about the issue of gun violence and what, if anything may be done about it.

set the rules for discussion. look at what precipitates these acts of violence. Root causes, socio-economic? psychological, entomological, zoological??? no one has bothered to go beyond:
"You will get my guns when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers!" and "Gun-nuts, and gun worshipers and nut jobs" and "Guns don't kill people, people kill people!"

This issue is so much deeper than that.

Name calling has not done one thing but make the gap between us that much harder to bridge.

Congress, NRA, Gun lobby, stop name-calling and knee-jerk reactions. TALK.

You can pick the shape of the table. How about a policy proposal.

guns in this country. Or at least a restriction on them. gun manufacturers make a shit load of money every time you even hint of curtailing America's beloved 2nd Amendment Rights. They hold this right and privilege over the 1st Amendment. If a person has a right to bear their arms does it trumps a person's right to not to want to be a victim of gun violence. Freedom of self expression. A person should have the ability to choose. But if the right to bear arms infringes on my freedom to not be a victim of gun violence then what rights do any of us have? It seems that these violent killings and work place shootings are getting more common. Congress has sold out to the Gun manufacturers,Gun Lobbyists, and Weapon designers. There is too much money in defense contracts. There is no legitimate reason why anyone needs a hundred round clip. When my husband hunts they are only allowed so many bullets in a magazine. Regulation on animals but people oh no. When you are hunting people, and humans are the prey then by all means you can have as many rounds as you want. If you want conversation turn on fox news. If you want a solution, you won't get one until somebody at the top loses someone that they love to gun violence.
