Is this person saying the NCAA is a terrorist group? That sanctions are the same as losing a family member, a friend, a co-worker, or being put out of work, because your office got blown up? Or is this person saying that the sanctions over the criminal acts of the PTB of Penn State has brought them to a place of reflection, they now have to wonder what kind of culture they live in and what they need to do to prevent such acts from happening again? Because, this person clearly can't mean that sanctions are as devastating as the worst terrorist act on US soil.

They need fans who say this kind of stuff or they don't have a follow up story to the sanctions. People with more modest reactions don't get quoted.

... it's just proof that the NCAA didn't do enough. As they shelled out their pieces of silver to empower the High Priests in the Church of Football, they helped create the conditions that allowed children to be raped and buggered on campus. Sandusky couldn't do it himself!! He was aided and abetted by the "faithful" even in creating and running a faux charity that served as a recruitment organization for Sandusky's predations.

When Bobby Knight finally wore out his welcome the "fans" were just as delusional. I think every major college sports team has these type of fans. As bad as they are, European Soccer fans seem even worse at times.

I like sports, but it is just a freaking game people.

The punishment wasn't severe enough. The whole football program should've been axed for the sex abuse cover-up.

The only victims in this are the victims Paterno allowed to get sexually abused.

I'm tired of the sports worship in this country.

First, there was the riot. Were the students rioting because a pedophile coach was allowed to roam their beloved campus? No, they rioted simply because their little god JoePa was fired.

Then there was the Penn State coed whose brother was among Sandusky's victims. She had not let her classmates know. She reported to the media that she had had to listen to classmates joke about the victims. The proper noun "Sandusky" became a verb. How civilized is that?

Then there was the victim who was attending a high school elsewhere in the state. First of all, his coach betrayed his confidence and let others know that he would be testifying against Sandusky. Secondly, the mother of the victim soon told the news media that a grandmother of one of the Penn State players had walked up to her and said (I don't remember the exact words), "Now my grandson's football team is going to lose, and it's all your son's fault." (Very interesting. Sandusky had nothing to do with it? I guess her son must have seduced him.) Can you believe this complete lack of compassion? Her son had been raped by the pedophile coach, and all she cared about was her grandson's football team winning games? I'm a proud father. If I had been in the situation of the victim's mother, I would have been deeply hurt (not to mention extremely outraged almost to the point of having a nervous breakdown). And, finally, classmates of the victim started bullying him because they held him responsible for besmirching Paterno's image! He was driven out of school before he could graduate with the rest of his fellow seniors. So, the rape victim was victimized again!

And, finally, we have all the diehards rejecting the findings of the Freeh report.

The truth is that many fans and supporters of school sports are nothing less than enablers. These are the people who are the real sports haters. Supposed "snobs" don't have the power to even begin to bring down a college football program. As we've seen in the case of Penn State, that tragedy can be accomplished quite easily from within -- not by "egghead" professors or anyone else.

Sports fans, look among yourselves to find the true enemies of sport.

I can honestly say that I doubt that I would ever know it if somebody didn't tell me.

I used to love to watch college football but recently (like the last 20 years or so) it seems that it's gotten to be nothing but show biz. If the entire NCAA Division 1 football program ended tomorrow I wouldn't care.
