Americans are not going to allow that to happen and all the money from the 'we've stashed our money in tax havens' won't work.
Obama will win a second term.
Dems need to keep the Senate and take back the House.

Romney is going to be toxic for all downward elections. We have to hang the crazies of the party around his neck like an anchor.
Romney is almost making it too easy for us, going "Bachman" himself, with his outrageous accusations.

(135,924 posts)A Tennessee program meant to mitigate the potential disenfranchising effects of a new voter identification law is reaching only a small percentage of residents who don't have ID, a new report finds.
Tennessee's voter ID law went into effect at the beginning of the year, requiring citizens to present state or federally issued photo identification, such as driver's licenses, passports or concealed handgun carry permits, in order to cast a ballot. Student IDs and library cards were excluded from the list of acceptable forms of identification, though officials in Memphis are mounting an effort to make library cards acceptable.
Pro-voter ID legislators responded to concerns over the law by requiring the state to issue free photo IDs to residents who can't afford them. According to an inquiry from the Institute for Southern Studies, however, the state has only "issued 20,923 state IDs for voting purposes to citizens in Tennessee." That potentially leaves hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans still lacking the ID they will need to vote in November.
According to studies by voting rights group the Brennan Center, up to 10 percent of registered voters nationwide lack valid photo ID cards. Using that figure, the Institute for Southern Studies points out that Tennessee, with around 3.9 million registered voters, may be home to more than 380,000 citizens who wouldn't be able to vote if elections were held today.

"Are you a registered voter? Are you aware that a new law went into effect that will prevent hundreds of thousands of eligible voters from voting.
I'm here to make sure you are not one of them."
And for good measure, the campaign should focus on "areas with likely Democratic voters."

(3,811 posts)The new Tennessee voter ID law will without any doubt prevent thousands of elderly, poor, young, disabled citizens from voting. It came from ALEC and was roundly approved by Tennessee's new Tea-Party Republicans who swept into office in an electoral tidal wave in 2010. It's sickening and disgusting.
That said, Tennesseans will vote for anything with an "R" beside it. Belief in UN black-helicopters and secret Muslim plots to infiltrate the government is strong and widespread in the state.

(5,763 posts)He is now tied in the polls with President Obama, though Obama's ahead in the swing states.
There's probably a diminishing returns on the megabucks donated to this election. Maybe after $300 million in advertising, it doesn't matter how much more somebody spends. There's a such thing as saturation. So, I more or less agree Romney will not win.
However, there's also the economy. I'm afraid if it keeps up this bad, people are going to Reagan-out on Obama.
As for taking back the House, the Repubs are now entrenched. They've gerrymandered the districts, they have automatic voting machines, and they're purging the voting rolls and doing what they can to suppress voter drives. It's going to be hard to take back the House. With all the money in this election, it's going to be equally as hard holding the Senate.
Check the new NBC polls - Barack is leading with 49% and I'm lovin' it.
caseymoz
(5,763 posts)Most others show the contest within the margin of error. Which actually means you don't know who's winning. If Obama comes out ahead in all of those, but within the margin of error, mathematically it means you don't know who's winning. Even if the mean average of all of them show that he leads.
Though I have to say, I hadn't seen the poll you cited, yet. It is good news.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html
caseymoz
(5,763 posts)In all but one. The mathematical meaning of that is: you don't know who's winning. Even if it's six out of seven. Even if the average shows Obama in the lead. The margin of error makes the average mathematically useless as a guide. When you divide or multiply those numbers to come out with a mean average, you also multiply the margins of error.
What's most bothersome about it is, with all the problems Romney has been having, no poll should be showing him less than ten points down. If the Republicans had been able to field a decent candidate, Obama would be buried. But they can't produce a decent candidate with their current ideology. Somehow, everyone expressing it is either mendacious, corrupt, crazy or dumber than a Bush. (Capital or small letter). It should tell them what kind of people rise to the top in their belief system, but so far, they don't get the idea.
This economy is killing Obama, and it really shouldn't, because it's a Republican monster from beginning to end.
demwing
(16,916 posts)Either Obama has had a small but consistent lead since last October, or the two have been in a statistical tie since June of 2011.
If they've been in a tie for a year, why are you jumping in saying "Oh no, now Romney's tied with Obama!" as if it just happened last week?
Why are you pushing the most negative perspective?
caseymoz
(5,763 posts)Most negative would obviously be if I said Romney would soon develop an insurmountable lead due to his financial support.
In fact, I don't even think most of what I've said is negative. If you read back to my first post to this subthread, I said that I agree that Obama should win because he was leading in almost all swing states. His projected electoral numbers look good.
I also cited the possibility that there might be a diminishing returns to megabucks in campaigns, that is, you get no further advantage for spending $500 million in campaign spending as you would with $300 million. Maybe there is a saturation effect that will render Romney's advantage moot. I never heard anyone mention this possibility, BTW. I came up with it myself.
Let's also hope for inflation of advertising prices, which will take more money from the wealthy who want Romney to win, and distribute it to the middle and lower classes. Therefore, frustrating the wealthy Republicans. I also didn't hear anybody mention that possibility. I didn't read it from a source either. I came up with that myself as a hopeful possibility.
You think I'm too negative, still? Maybe it's because, psychologically, I don't depend on optimism to get up in the morning. I don't have to maintain it to stay motivated. To make an effort, it's not necessary for me to tell myself that the good outcome is the only possibility.
My apology that it brings you down, but negative thoughts are only thoughts. They don't effect the world. Actions do. Your actions are dependent on your judgment, which is informed by facts. It may be necessary to maintain hope, but it's best not to get into the habit of distorting facts to do it.
I think putting your hopes in the wrong things is harmful, because it deceives you. You can make terrible decisions when you're misinformed, including when you're doing it to stay motivated. It's important to know what's invalid, like an average of several polls, and what's real, like a clear lead above the margin of error.
BTW, I also said that Obama having a clear lead in the newest NBC poll is good news. It can get better if other polls reflect it as well. It could be a breakthrough.
If you can't see the optimism that I've cited and only see that I'm so negative, it's perhaps because you need more hope than I'm offering to stave off despair. I can understand that. I'll encourage you by saying that I see Obama as the likely winner, but not every valid indicator says this.
Lastly, things I read recently suggested that Romney had pulled even with Obama in Virginia. In fact, if you look at my link above citing the Kos/Sieu poll, Romney is pulling even with Obama in national polls. That's what I was referring to. So, my perception is that, no, Romney has been trailing Obama in the polls by a clear margin. His pulling even is new, at least to me.
Now maybe we just have our eyes on different polls, or you were watching polls months ago, but the polls months ago didn't mean anything to me. They're not predictive. It's only as the election approaches that it tells you if Obama's campaign has been effective and vise versa.

Obama is banking on the People's ability to understand which way is in their best interest by talking to the People with respect as though we are adults.
Romney is banking on the stupidity of Americans and vast amounts of money, and talks to the People like we're children. No respect.
In a new NBC-Wall Street Journal poll, President Obama held a 49 percent to 33 percent edge on the question of which candidate is looking out for the middle class while new Gallup data showed Obama with a 50 percent to 39 percent edge on who understands the problems Americans face in their everyday lives.
