(12,581 posts)It's really, really hard to lie when someone is checking your statements against the paperwork in front of him...

We will see if Jeffy has good counsel or if he is smart....

(3,194 posts)Would he really risk that? Or do you think he's already gotten promises for a pardon?

(16,720 posts)Did tRump promise to pardon you? and did Mueller ask that of everyone in front of him? I'm sure hoping he did!!!!

(21,916 posts)Trump ignorantly thought that his pardon powers were limitless. I'm sure he was pissed when he was informed of his limitations!
What would it mean, in a legal sense, if Trump had promised to pardon Sessions in order to influence his actions? Seems like a crime, sort of a quid pro quo.

(63,083 posts)It's one thing to lie to Congress when Congress is controlled by Trump-friendly enablers, but perjuring yourself behind closed doors is a very different matter when it's your own ass on the line.
Also, I suspect that Mueller won't put up with any of that "pre-emptive Executive Privilege" bullshit that Sessions pulled on Congress.

(6,032 posts)I have a few friends who are lawyers who said the reason why that answer is used a lot is because it is almost impossible to prove a lie when someone uses that phrase.

(16,720 posts)then lying again Mueller would have his ass

(115,267 posts)on MSNBC that if you lie about not remembering something that you do remember, that's perjury. Of course they'd have to have evidence that he did know about something he claimed not to "remember," but she said they hung up some of the Watergate defendants with that threat. I'm sure Sessions is well aware of the fact that you can push the "I don't remember" claim only so far.

(14,045 posts)Sessions would have to be the biggest fool of all time to lie for Trump.
bluestarone
(16,720 posts)you think Mueller asked Sessions if tRump ever discuss pardons?? I think that would be an appropriate question!

(14,045 posts)I do believe that they both knew what questions were important to ask, and that they asked those questions. Sessions would be wise to answer everything truthfully.

(115,267 posts)He probably offered some weaselly answers that were not actually untruthful, but Sessions has been in the business too long not to understand the consequences of lying in an investigation like this.

(7,802 posts)From what we know of Sessions and tRump, 45 probably told Sessions what to say to questions. Any passing resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental.

(3,608 posts)the hell went on here...and that's only the info we have. So either way no matter what he said HE IS SCREWED, and if he ain't he's helping to make others that I can't stand SCREWED. So what a wonderful END to a SHAMEFUL career.

(82,849 posts)I am confident that the investigators didn't ask Sessions any questions they didn't already know the answer to. At this point, they probably have a pretty fair idea of what went on, who was in what meeting and when, and what was discussed among the participants at any particular meeting. If Sessions tries to claim that he wasn't in a meeting when seven other guys say he was, or if he says he got hypnotized by a little green man from outer space that nobody else in the room saw, the investigators can be pretty sure he's lying.
Sessions should know who the investigators have talked with so far, and any little detours he tries to take from the truth will be quite apparent.
