Outgoing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie believes his path to the presidency would have been a day at the beach if Donald Trump had not run.
“It's incredibly frustrating to think to yourself, ‘Wow, if this guy were not in the race, we'd win this thing,’” Christie said in an NJ.com interview published Sunday. “And I absolutely believe if Trump had not gotten into the race, I think we would have won.”
Christie also claimed he told Trump to stop bringing up the Bridgegate scandal – which he was accused of ordering allies to close down lanes on the George Washington Bridge to punish Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing his reelection – after he mentioned it during the campaign trail.
“'You know that's not true, so stop, OK? You want to say other stuff about me? Fine. But that's out of bounds. Stop it,’’ the Republican governor recalled telling Trump.
Trump never did it again, he said.

he got away with showing himself off town hall meets and other places of campaign interest by showing people only what he wanted them to see.
That is to say by showing people exactly who and what he is not. He held up a good act for a while, and it ended very fast. Very very fast.

I think back in 2012 this might have been the case. For all his nutjob rants, I remember hearing Glenn Beck say yrs ago that he thought the next Pres after Obama would be someone that wasnt politically correct and was the type of person that wouldnt be straight-laced, well kept, type that would have a gravy stain on his shirt. He was referring to Christie at the time b/c he said Obama was just too "clean and well spoken" and at the time he wasnt overly popular so he felt people would go in the opposite direction, which unfortunately we did w/ Trump.

But by the time the 2016 elections came around there was no way Christie would've won, his approval numbers were in the toilet. The guy who would've won w/out Trump in the race was Cruz.

or what you call the distant view point. N.J. political insiders knew of Christie's bombastic self destructive ways.In fact Christie's demise was predicted well in advance by a New Jersey insider. He just didn't think it would come about so fast the way it did !
