Major layoffs announced in western Kentucky coal mines.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - More than 500 employees in Kentucky's coal sector will be impacted by the latest round of layoffs and terminations.

The Office for Employment and Training announced two Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices.

Beginning February 18, Armstrong Coal in Madisonville anticipates laying off all employees at all facilities in Kentucky. That is 427 employees in all.

Also, on February 14, Thoroughfare Mining will be permanently laying off all 99 employees at the Survant Mine in Central City, Kentucky.

Between the two companies, 526 employees will be permanently laid off.

Most of the Armstrong employees are in Ohio County, where I grew up back in cave man days. In Muhlenburg County (where Central City is) there is a huge Tennessee Valley Authority power plant. In March of this year, they shut down two of the coal-fired units, and fired up three natural gas-fired combined cycle units, with the same total capacity of the two shut down units. Those two units are permanently disabled. Muhlenburg County was the largest coal producing county in the US for many years.

And she actually used a plot of land on the White House grounds to show little children that vegetables grow in the dirt and have to be cared for. Don't get me started on that Obama guy.

Oh wait...

Look, we have serious economic problems in many parts of our country. And Roland is absolutely right. Instead of dividing people the way Donald Trump does, let's reunite around policies that will bring jobs and opportunities to all these underserved poor communities.

So for example, I'm the only candidate which has a policy about how to bring economic opportunity using clean renewable energy as the key into coal country. Because we're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business, right?

And we're going to make it clear that we don't want to forget those people. Those people labored in those mines for generations, losing their health, often losing their lives to turn on our lights and power our factories.
Now we've got to move away from coal and all the other fossil fuels, but I don't want to move away from the people who did the best they could to produce the energy that we relied on.

So whether it's coal country or Indian country or poor urban areas, there is a lot of poverty in America. We have gone backwards. We were moving in the right direction. In the '90s, more people were lifted out of poverty than any time in recent history.

Because of the terrible economic policies of the Bush administration, President Obama was left with the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, and people fell back into poverty because they lost jobs, they lost homes, they lost opportunities, and hope.

So I am passionate about this, which is why I have put forward specific plans about how we incentivize more jobs, more investment in poor communities, and put people to work.

They believed him, just like some still believe him when his tax scam will rob them blind for decades, and the millions losing their health care, or having their heath care premiums skyrocket upwards even more, and the damage he'll do to this county's economy. Those people losing their jobs will be devastated, and forced into poverty without something equal to replace what they had. Everything he claimed was the opposite of the truth, and maybe a lot more will realize that's what he does, over and over again. Solar is getting so much cheaper, and promoted everywhere else except here now, it'll reduce their jobs mining coal even more soon. Unless you believe his propaganda, again. Sadly some still will.

He NEVER promised to make America great for everyone.

He promised to take away healthcare. Promised to defund Planned Parenthood. Promised to give tax breaks to corporations. Promised to lock Hillary up. Promised to kill regulations that protect lifeforms and the planet. Promised to make it easier to get guns. Promised to stop global warming funding. Promised to bring back waterboarding. Promised to cancel funding to sanctuary cities. Promised to kick a bunch of adults, kids, families out of the country. Promised to ban Muslims. Promised to end birthright citizenship. Promised to dramatically scale back US Education Dept.

That’s just what I can come up with off the top of my head.

No I don’t feel sorry for people who believed he would do what he said he would do and then voted for him anyway.

1. Not everything is about making a political point - especially when lives and livelihoods are at risk.
2. This is true. Coal is dying, which is definitely a good thing.
3. Their families will also suffer. They may also turn to substance abuse, becoming a bigger burden on society.

"We told you so" is a juvenile attitude, and is what's wrong with politics these days. I really couldn't care less about being able to 'shove it in Republicans' faces.' That's pointless - almost like treating politics as a sporting event where we try to 'win' to get 'bragging rights.'

I'd rather get the people who were laid off into job retraining programs. If they still like Trump for it, whatever. The net effect is still better for the country than the toxic attitude of, "They like Trump, so I hope they suffer!"
