Now that most of Californias House Republicans have voted for a tax overhaul that will raise taxes for many of their constituents, you have to wonder what more good cheer theyll bring us in the new year.
Im thinking roads and other infrastructure.
A measure hurtling toward the November 2018 ballot would repeal the 12-cent per gallon gasoline tax increase approved this past legislative session to pay for road repairs, bridge maintenance and some public transit. Granted, no one wants to pay more for gasoline. But potholes dont fill themselves.
Thats not stopping House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, and most of Californias Republican congressional delegation from backing that repeal with a notable exception, Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock.
McCarthy, a guy who knows politics, dumped $100,000 into the initiative to repeal the gas tax. Rep. Mimi Walters, an Orange County Republican, and Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Corona, chipped in $50,000 each, recent campaign finance reports show.

Hey McCarthy, you can try to pull your bull shit, but we are coming...............we hate traitors and people that support traitors, and we really hate people that support a sexual serial assaulter and since your the number two on the fascist list in the house, what say you about your speaker and what he did?
Here is a reminder, and people in California should ask, when did you know? You are the RNC asshole, all of you............................even the "guy" from Turlock................
WE are coming November 2018 can't get here fast enough, asshole.................

(34,661 posts)neighbor move in. He bragged about the Prop 13 Property Tax freeze he had on his Home in the Auburn area. Understand when Property that was Tax Limited is sold, the new assessments can be 15-20 times the limited.
Know full well about the School Funding formulas,we went through that in Minny years ago,the Rethugs really blew up our Real Estate Taxing formulas all to kiss the asses of their Rural Voters. And the Students paid the price of not having advanced educational opportunities.

(51,584 posts)I chose not to sign one that would screw with prop taxes since it wouldn't add any more funding to the state's education costs. The guy told me that he heard the same reason from another teacher earlier. Most people aren't aware of it but since I taught for over 15 years in the state and it is bare bones everything in the schools.

(34,661 posts)Saw similiar situations in most of the School Districts that I called on during the Plawenty years in Minny. It was brutal on most Districts. Budgets were cannibalized and Teachers gave up pay and Bennies and doubt if these were ever fully replace after Dayton took over.
Dealing with food Service, saw first hand how Lunch Staff Personnel had to go begging in order to feed their Schools Nutritional needs. Some of my small Rural Districts had to make do with donations because of short falls in State Funding.
And it hurts the Kids. But some Grain Farmer got his Real Estate Tax Rebate Check will bitching about why he should have to use his Tax money to fund before school and reduced or free Lunch's. Oh by the way, same assholes claim those kids can share books like he did when he was a kid.
Yup,walked to School every day, uphill both ways. Yup!!

(22,112 posts)We have this same issue in MO, where they (repug legislature) mandated that we couldn't install toll roads to pay for any road repairs, so what's left (an increased sales tax is out too)? In any event, the money is going to come out of our pockets somehow...
This is a pure and simple publicity stunt on the part of these calif. repugs, so they can take credit for repealing these 'road' taxes...

(24,695 posts)privatize the whole shebang..............and then have slave labor working on the roads filling in those pot holes............and then they can gerrymander elections , and run around like the RNC did in Florida, with the help of congressional Republicans and senators---------------saying they need to purge the DOJ and the FBI----------------------

Then we can focus on its elimination in the Great Lakes region.

In MI, I do believe we will be voting for an independent congressional districting commission and MJ legalization. That should drive up the progressive vote big time.

As an ex-Chicagoan, I worry about the midwest. Pockets of blue intelligence and diversity surrounded by seas of red stupidity and racism.

We need to point out that their GOP reps are worthless in doing anything to protect CA (or NY or NJ) Republicans from the rest of the country's GOP that wants to hurt them just because they live next to a lot of Democrats.
