It's about the finality of the Bosnian war crimes trials and Amanpour admits it hit her harder than any other story she's covered.
There's a clip of her face-to-face with Mladic, as he sneers at the victims of his killing machine.
She walks through the lines of tiny coffins. She sits down with the administrator installed after the Dayton accords, and they talk about how long it will take to erase the scars and memories.
And a clip of Bill Clinton at the 20th anniversary of Dayton-- showing a side of greatness of the US when you strip away the political BS.

(21,110 posts)whenever "I" think of war crimes, I think of monkeyboy and cheney and the men, women and children they had murdered in Iraq. The difference is that those two are still not in shackles, which in itself, is a crime against humanity.

(16,104 posts)but this one in Bosnia was as chilling and disturbing as anything since the "Final Solution."
The unspeakable horror of Sarajevo - so recently after the Winter Olympics there - was nothing short of hell on earth.
I can imagine how it impacted everyone and every witness who saw what they did there.

(46,166 posts)It's wrenching but I still recommend her work, too.
Amanpour is one of the best. It takes so much guts to do what they do. Thanks for the tip about the video.

(6,262 posts)All about facts on the ground. Have it set to record all new programs.
Think (hope) PBS will keep her either before or after they find a slot for a Rose replacement for an hour long Public Affairs show. Up to the local PBS channels whether to program (pay) or not for either or both.
She is extraordinary, and happy she is free of any CNN obligations. Her specialty is global issues, which is so needed. At only a half hour, not enough for me, but as an adjunct to another Rose-type show, will be welcome.

(8,100 posts)comparing what Trump is doing to American politics to the beginning stages of the disintegration of Yugoslavia. The same appeals to "nationalism"--white nationalism in the US, Serb nationalism in the former Yugoslavia. Same demeaning of objective reality, same venality. The catastrophe can unfold with blinding speed, and once the damage is done it may take decades to repair--and for those killed, an eternity.
