$3,000 to $4,000 worth of Christmas gifts stolen

University of New Mexico’s basketball player Laneah Bryan left $3,000 to $4,000 worth of Christmas gifts in her car over night,
and when she got up the next day she was shocked to find someone has broken into her car and stolen them.

This happened in here in Albuquerque, NM, which is at or near the top nationally for auto theft, property crimes, etc.

Obviously ‘common sense’ is not a requirement to be a university student or basketball player.

Sad

After all, theft is illegal. Nobody asked permission before taking the stuff. If people respected the owner's rights and dignity, there'd have been no theft, and this is just trying to get the bad guy (or gal) off the hook. Obviously the US has a problem with theft culture.

Yeah, it's sarcastic. But completely analogous.

It's stupid to leave thousands of dollars worth of items in your car.

I hope the thief is caught and prosecuted.

There is room for both of those statements to exist.

off with all the gifts and stealing one car. One person left house keys in their cars allowing thieves to enter the house for more stuff, and get additional car keys.

The police have been warning people for months not to leave packages in vehicles.

3 to 4 k seems really excessive. I feel like we over do it with our kids. I bought my daughter an apple watch and a new nose ring. I felt like I was spoiling her..
She would never leave anything expensive in her car overnight either, even in our own yard out in the country..
