Right wingers, Tucker Carlson, Fox News, sometimes refer to the high percentage of immigrants charged with crimes in federal courts, or held in federal facilities. But that is a small and biased sample. The vast majority of those detained by the feds are those detained for immigration violations. But the vast majority of crimes are processed in state and local courts. When you look at all crimes, all who are detained, it is clear immigrants commit fewer crimes than native born people. Just search scientific studies immigrant crime rates to find the truth. The notion immigrants are prone to crime is an urban myth. The safest big cities are Honolulu and El Paso. Because they are jam packed with immigrants.

6. A Christmas blessing for me

is that my entire family, and almost anyone who comes into our house, are staunch Democrats. We don't have to listen to RW crap during dinner or avoid the big orange elephant in the oval room. There are a few sour, old outlier uncles, but no one invites or spends time with them. We used to feel sorry for the grumpy old coots, but now they have their nasty bed to lie in and are left there.

I feel grateful. I wish you cheer in this season when we should be happy instead of wary.

and literally never think of anything else. My father is like that. I can't tell you how many times I've had to tell him to stop it, even after we agree not to talk politics.

If they're retired or otherwise able to have Fox News on every all day every day, and/or the radio playing Limbaugh and his clones, thinking about the stuff they say becomes a habit. I believe a lot of the rudeness comes from listening to the way those assholes talk to people who disagree on their shows. They hear the hosts being rude so often they come to think it's socially acceptable to act like that in real life.

11. Our extended family (now that daughters married)

is of like mind. A VERY pleasant surprise considering they’re all from a red state. They’re all as disgusted as we are.

Daughter married well! (Whew!)

We had a great Christmas Eve on their turf, and it was really lovely - as warm inside as it was cold outside. And a big sprawling dinner with two chowders and tureen of broccoli cheese soup, wiener dogs, snow, and news of a new “bun in the oven”! Not our daughter yet. Way too soon. She’s still a bride.
