(2,682 posts)Everyone is asleep but me. I just watched another version of The Nutcracker and I'm ready to call it a day. Presents are under the tree and stacked under overfilled stockings at the fireplace. Daughter's in-laws are visiting from out of town. They thoughtfully are staying in a near-by hotel but left their dog with us, much to the consternation of our three cats and dog. Cats have been hiding all day which kept them from food and litter. Had to lock extra dog in family room so cats could go about their nightly business. One loves to eat ribbon so sheets are spread over the piles of presents to keep her out. We even have a stocking for my great grandson who will be born next month.
Tomorrow will be a huge breakfast before we open gifts. Son-in-law is cooking a prime rib on the grill for dinner. He does a great job with everything he grills.
I'm avoiding the news for a few days in order to be able to enjoy the food, gifts and company.
I refuse to be bullied into saying Merry Christmas, so to all you wonderful DU'ers, I'll say Happy Holidays!!!

(12,377 posts)You must live in a very red area. Im in the Keys where we dont feel any of that silliness. Everyone can express their holiday wishes exactly as they please and no one raises an eyebrow.
Otherwise your holiday description sounds quite lush and inviting. I was chuckling at the vision of the ribbon eating kitty. Theres always one!
Merry Christmas and congratulations on the precious package arriving in the New Year!

(2,682 posts)in the White House and his insistence on saying Merry Christmas. He even has the delusion that he has struck some blow for saving Merry Christmas. What a pathetic little man. He's like a rooster taking credit for the sunrise.
I'm actually in a very blue area near Seattle.
Even though the visiting in-laws are Republicans, nothing political has come up.
