I think that SS, Medicare and Medicaid will be the tipping point.

Unlike this fucked up tax bill, the effects will be easy to understand. There are no "growth assumptions" to fool people, etc.

When they come out and tell people that real dollars are being taken from them SOON, it's game over.

I believe most people think like I do...You put your hand in my pocket to steal my money, you're going to come back with a stump.

People with nothing left to lose are frightening. Most people will not abide getting killed by politicians, especially when there is no longer any way to disguise the fact that this is indeed exactly what will be happening.

3. well, foxnews and republicans will blame obama and democrats for the automatic cuts

that are coming due to the tax cut. obviously the tax cut is to blame, but they'll spin it, as they always do, on excessive spending.

the question is, if they try to do a larger "reform", how will they pin *that* on democrats? they'll have a harder time with that argument, but that won't keep them from trying and trying and trying and trying.

and 30+% will eat it up.

5. Yes, I agree with your comments, but when I am talking about is...

the Republicans actually having to tell their constituents something like..."If you are age 50 to 55 on this date, your Social Security will be reduced by x% and you will not be eligible for Medicare until age 80".

This is different than taxes...this will be a direct action with a direct result. Just my opinion.

peddling greed is easy.

but even their baseless claims that it will create "jobs, jobs, jobs" won't do much to persuade a retiree.

David Brooks said it yesterday at the end of his NYT column:

"And I confess, I don’t expect the G.O.P. to be hurt by the decision to stiff its own voters. The historical pattern is clear: The less Republicans do for workers, the more alienated the workers become and the more they vote Republican."

7. Don't Wait for a Tipping Point

There's difference between waiting for something to happen and making something happen. There are more than enough among the voting age population to capture the house and possibly the senate. Work to get out the vote.

There was an tremendous GOTV effort in Virginia - thus the results. And while Alabama is, for sure, not going to re-elect Jones, he won due to an extraordinary GOTV effort in an off year/off year election.

Medicare and Social Security have been sacrosanct.
To gut them the GOP will have to have a Goebbels level propaganda machine.
Unless of course they simply don't care what the American people think and just go ahead and cut. They don't worry about elections, they can always rig those.

But I hope you are 100% correct, LuckyCharms.

Looks homeless, clearly on public assistance such as Medicaid and SSI because his unhealthy looking body does not look like it can stand work. About in his forties or early fifties in age. Looks to be a rabid Trump supporter and loyal republican voter. You can't fix stupid, it is better if those people die off like that guy likely is headed toward. Sorry to sound so brutal, but I have had my fill with voters like that guy, who has every reason in the world to vote Dem but hates Dems.

Those among the current recipients who tend to vote Republican don't give a fuck about their children or anyone else. If anything, they'll take pleasure in the fact that younger people will be hurt badly.
