The World Series and the election
From 1952-1976, the World Series predicted the outcome of each Presidential Election. If the National League won, then the Democrats won the White House. If the American League, the Republicans.

Between 1976 and 2000, the World Series inaccurately predicted each election, but got back on course with the anointing of G.W. Bush by the Supreme Court.

Since that point, it's interesting.

2002: Anaheim Angels (AL) win, Republicans hold Congress, gaining seats.
2004: Boston Red Sox (AL) win, Republicans hold Congress and White House.
2006: St. Louis Cardinals (NL) win, Democrats retake Congress.
2008: Philadelphia Phillies (NL) win, Democrats hold Congress and retake White House.

2010: San Francisco Giants (NL) win....

The rest is up to you tomorrow. Go vote. Don't let San Francisco down.

1. I am voting
:hi:

Those coincidences always make me chuckle though.

And for technical reasons I suspect we will hold the house by a VERY NARROW margin

2. Don't let AMERICA DOWN
Fuck this false equivalency. This series had nothing to do with conservative vs. liberal.

3. Says the Rangers fan. I feel sorry for you, brother, but you guys had a HELL of a run this
year and I applaud Cliff Lee, Josh Hamilton et al. Hell, I'm a Red Sox fan, so I don't like what that means WE'VE done to the electorate. haha

4. Relax
If the the election and the series have nothing to do with each other, then they have nothing to do with each other. You can't underscore the separation by bursting that vein in your forhead. Besides, I'm pretty sure you need that thing...

11. Buddy, sincerely, fuck you
Look at my signature line. I am not a Rangers' fan. However, I am sick of this board equating Ranger fans and Texans as conservatives.

8. I totally agree

There are too many trying to tie major league baseball to politics. The World Series was fun, Politics is serious, especially now. People have go to vote, and make sure the right wing extremists don't win. The Giants may have a Trophy, that hurts no one. But if the Republicans get power, we are going to have problems for YEARS TO COME.

12. All over this board about a victory for liberalism and Democrats
by the Giants winning the world series. I knew DU was full of bigots who hate Texas with all their soul, but I never knew they could be such idiots.

19. I don't get it either..
Some people can not separate The Bush family Republicans from the rest of Texas. I have heard plenty of progressive talk shows coming out Texas, and by the way, some parts of Southern California has plenty of crazy Republicans as well..Our state is not entirely blue.

Again, Sports has nothing to do with politics. The Giants do not represent Democratic values, they are a Business franchise, just as the rest of the sports world is.. from the Lakers to the Miami Dolfins.

13.  i posted something like this and someone said I was
alienating people. i find it really funny that san francisco beat texas in their back yard and texas was suppose to have the best pitcher in lee. hell even if you were a texas rangers fan, you had to enjoy watching bush lose a little bit.

14. What you posted was about three Texas teams losing this week.
There are Texan fans (I'm a slight Texan fan by nature of where I live but have to add Go Pack!) who wanted them to win. Your post wasn't about World Series wins determining the outcome of the election. It was about three Texas teams. I wanted the Texans to win this week because they are incredibly talented and I had hopes for a Texan/Packer Superbowl, just to stuff it in the craw of Cowboys fans.

I cheer for a team, not a past owner. It is not Cliff Lee's fault that Georgie owned the team he signed with once upon a time. :hi:

16. That's just weird.
I look to sports as and escape from poltics, now I'll never look at baseball the same. Its a shame really.
