Bush Senior Early CIA Ties Revealed

By Russ Baker and Jonathan Z. Larsen | The Real News Project

January 8, 2007

NEW YORK--Newly released internal CIA documents assert that former president George Herbert Walker Bush's oil company emerged from a 1950's collaboration with a covert CIA officer.

Bush has long denied allegations that he had connections to the intelligence community prior to 1976, when he became Central Intelligence Agency director under President Gerald Ford. At the time, he described his appointment as a 'real shocker.'

But the freshly uncovered memos contend that Bush maintained a close personal and business relationship for decades with a CIA staff employee who, according to those CIA documents, was instrumental in the establishment of Bush's oil venture, Zapata, in the early 1950s, and who would later accompany Bush to Vietnam as a “cleared and witting commercial asset” of the agency.

According to a CIA internal memo dated November 29, 1975, Bush's original oil company, Zapata Petroleum, began in 1953 through joint efforts with Thomas J. Devine, a CIA staffer who had resigned his agency position that same year to go into private business. The '75 memo describes Devine as an “oil wild-catting associate of Mr. Bush.” The memo is attached to an earlier memo written in 1968, which lays out how Devine resumed work for the secret agency under commercial cover beginning in 1963...

2. Posted yesterday. But it should be posted every damn day until every
single member of DU's read it.

But my Dad always hated Poopy and he swore no one who was ever connected with the CIA, let alone head the damn thing, should be allowed to run for President. Ever.

3. I knew he was involved with the CIA back in the early...
1960's and had a hand in the Bay of Pigs fiasco. He has always been a participant in dirty dealings and this information should have been available and well known long ago. So many think Bush Sr. is OK but he has been groveling in the dirt for a long time.

Keep pulling and the secret history unravels through every era since.

Government of the corporations, by the spooks, for the elites.

13. It's the best movie I've seen for quite some time.
If you like movies that require your attention, and your thoughts while watching, you'll like it.

8. Devine and Poppy working together may be the Standard Model...
Like they looted the S&Ls, Master Thieves are never noticed.

A legitimate looking fellah works on the inside, investing in stuff from his job at Train, Cabot and Associates. Poppy is the outside man, the public face of the venture.

Here, both guys headed off to Vietnam (and Poppy, later to China and Saudi Arabia) where he can provide "intelligence" for proprietary American interests.

Howard Hughes comes to mind in the story, as do other Big Oil, Wall Street, Eugenics-lubbing NAZI types like the bin Ladens.

In the present day, we saw what happened to Randy "Duke" Cunningham. He had some wild parties with current-day CIA top dogs like Kyle "Dusty" Foggo and Brent Wilkes. In that case, things went horribly awry, thanks to that pesky free press the liberals keep talking about.

So Operation 40 Porter Goss had to resign. Too bad. So sad.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, reprehensor. No wonder Johnathan Vankin calls CIA "Capitalism's Invisible Army." As noted above, please keep this kicked until all the guilty are up on charges.

15. "Capitalism's Invisible Army."
While Vankin does, Bucky Fuller in Critcal Path 1980, was the first I remember hearing the term.

10. URGENT NOTICE TO CORPORATE MEDA
Please do not breathe a word of this to the American public.

As usual.

Just go back to your computer terminals and ASSUME THE POSITION.

As usual.

America knows you sold out a long time ago.
