he was a child . i discovered flash gordon serials in my latter years .

Wry, sardonic, competent. He wasn't the doofus often portrayed in later versions, not just an alter ego, but a reporter who had his own personality.

I don't know why, but that was always my favorite part of the opening narration.

I still recall being somewhat disturbed when my parents told me about his death. It seemed such a stark contrast with the character.

But I checked and George Reeves - the actor - died in June of 1959, well over a year later.
